Haha, I think you are not correctly informed. The time when stuff at the dollar store cost a dollar is long over...

It's just a garbage store now that sells cheap products. Price doesn't matter, and the only thing of the former dollar store that remains is the name... and that they are still selling SOME products for 1 dollar, that are usually sold below that... they are keeping that concept when it suits them and are mercylessly ignoring it when it doesn't.

If they changed the signage from "Dollar Tree" to "Buck Twenty Five Tree" they'd have had to raise prices again even sooner. It's now everything is less than $20 and very few things are over $10.
Not QUITE as bad as our neighbor, which went from "Five Below" (everything $5 or less) to "Five Below and Beyond" (or "anything goes"). At least the "Dollar Store" near my parents figured out the right way to play the game - everything costs an even number of dollars - 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. They beat the "no more pennies" thing by a few years...
