  • I was pretty close to ending the first book of XNPC a few months ago, but then I decided to go back and add in a few more arcs to help flesh out the characters and put in a couple fun ideas I'd had. That's why I can say that, today, I've finally caught up to myself in writing my book.
Update on Project Cold Desk: My Rosebud credits finally reset, and I tried to iron out the issues that the first version of the game had. The issues were that it was too dark to see, the ghosts move too fast, and you can walk through the cubicle walls.

These were the instructions I gave it:
Increase the brightness in the game to make navigation easier while still keeping the lighting dim and atmospheric. Reduce the ghosts' movement speed to 1/4 of its current speed. The player must not be able to walk through cubicle walls. Instead, each cubicle should have a door.

It said that it was integrating those prompts into the code, but when it was done, everything was exactly the same. It hadn't changed a single thing. Now this week's credits are used up, and I'll have to wait another week just to try again to do the exact same thing I did this week.

I know I didn't spend a cent on any of this, but I still feel like I deserve a refund.
The kind of story that is doomed from the start are stories abandoned by authors after a few chapters. This usually happen because the author lost interest or no longer enjoy writing it. You enjoy writing your story, so that's good.

But to have a chance in any platforms, a decent first impression (cover, synopsis, first chapter, hook) is sometimes not enough. I suggest you join a writing group (or some say cabal) to improve your odds.

Not all writing groups are equally helpful. Good groups provide honest criticism and support. Poor groups can become echo chambers where everyone praises each other without useful feedback, or they focus mainly on review exchanges rather than improving craft. Choose your cabal carefully.
What's worse than listening to Cocomelon nursery rhymes at full blast for two and a half hours? Listening to the first two seconds of a Cocomelon nursery rhyme video over and over again because the kid watching them thinks mashing the restart button is the funniest thing on earth.

Unfortunately it's very popular, all these loud and overstimulating cartoons hiding behind the mask of being engaging and educational. The kids I work with all love cocomelon so I've almost memorized all the songs. It hurts.

Ikr those are not even cute. All the colors and sounds hurt my brain lol. And cocomelon kids are addicted to those bs. And you can't even try putting them away from the screen for two minutes.

A baby shark just flew over my barn dodododododo!

    XNPC's title is pretty long. I think I need to come up an acronym for it. From now on, I'll refer to it as‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ .

Thank you @CountVanBadger. Without you explaining this stuff, I would feel less useless than the speck of space dust in this meaningless universe.

Oh, don't let me stop you.
Right brain: "I need to give this character a last name. His first name is Graham.'
    Left brain: "Hagmar."
Right brain: "That's not bad. Okay, I'll call him Graham Hagmar, and...wait."
I am a serious and adult grown up who you should respect and look up to. I am also the guy who just pushed his chair away with his butt while trying to sit, and fell down on the floor right in front of his coworker and boss.
Hot take: Batman only works when he's in a universe where he's the only superhero. As soon as you put him in the Justice League, he loses what makes Batman Batman.

How so? I'm curious. I do sorta agree, but...How so?

Batman is the world's greatest detective. He works best when he's taking on street-level crime. The Joker works so well with him because he's just a mob boss with a weird sense of humor, and Batman is just a guy with cool gadgets who knows karate. Putting Batman up against Braniac and Darkseid takes him out of his element and turns him into someone else entirely.

Alright. That's a decent point. I have to agree. 🙌🏾
My son tries the rosebud AI and he loves it, now he's begging me to pay because apparently it use payable credit points. I hate you ☺️

not even finished, so he use the provided template first, choosing the minecraft theme etc, then after all that he play it, and when he want to put some prompt, there's notification "need to wait 7 days to receive more free credit points"

Same. Mine is pretty much unplayable in its current state, but I went ahead and published it so I could show off a little lol. I'll iron out the issues as best I can when my credits reset.
I made a video game. Kind of. Rosebud AI is a program that takes whatever prompt you give it, and translates it into game code. Project Cold Desk (it's name, not mine) is an idea I had a while ago that tries to turn data entry into a survival horror game.
You can try it out here if you want: https://rosebud.ai/play/project-cold-desk

The idea is that you're in an abandoned office building being haunted by the ghosts of the people who used to work there. You have to locate documents around the office, take them to the one working computer, and enter the data accurately without being caught by the ghosts. Rosebud was able to throw together the basic idea surprisingly easily, but it's nowhere near perfect.

The level is too dark to navigate, both you and the ghost can walk straight through the cubicles, and if you manage to find the document, the ghost moves too fast for you to be able to enter the data without it catching you. Unfortunately, I'm on Rosebud's free plan, so I ran out of credits after just a couple of prompts, and now I have to wait a week to edit the game any more. Still, this is a pretty cool tool!

Thank you so much, my son would be so happy to know this
So. I'm a night guard at a children's hospital. Since the staff can't leave for lunch breaks, they'll order Doordash. Tonight a woman came to drop off someone's order, and she tells me "I hope whoever ordered this feels better soon! I got them a sympathy card." I said "Oh, uh, it's for a worker."

I don't think I've ever seen anyone so heartbroken to find out that somebody wasn't sick.
I don't know why, but this video always gives me the creeps. It looks exactly like something I'd remember from a bad dream.
