But I'm seeing a lot of illustrations just added there for fun, usually at the end of chapters, and it is really dissapointing coming from authors, who are a kind of artists.

I also want to add that illustration are not necessary to the story, and reading has always been about imagination.
What am I even seeing here? :blob_popcorn_two:

Basically, we are having a discussion about illustrations that technically mean nothing much to the story, being created by AI. What's the big deal?
If the author wants to have fun, it's their decision. On a site, where readers love to stay "quiet", maybe pay attention to the story and engage with it; the author might pay attention to your opinion as well then.
But aside from that... If the gist of it is that it's not necessary and distracting, that means it's a matter of taste and that's not up to you to decide. And if it's distracting because you want to imagine the story yourself, it makes not a speck of a difference if it's AI or not, so that doesn't even mean shit.

A story that brings you no gain should also cost you no money. But if you got the money and wish to spend it, more power to you. Not everybody does, though.
I also offer my services in cover design on this site, because I know that's how it is. And yes, I used to get paid for that as well (actually, I still do). If someone has an AI generated cover, I don't care, because they don't offer their cover, or some random images to their readers, but the story behind it.
It's not that hard to tell the difference. :blob_cookie:

here's a screenshot of one of my covers. And I think its even smaller *yet* when floating by on the "just released" pile...

now lets see what it looks like the way I worked on it...

now then.
anyone NOTICE anything, about the differences between the thumbnail the potential reader sees, and the actual image?
kind of hard to miss it, you know.

not only I can't afford an artist, that can do better than THAT...
but lets suppose I could afford it, I had disposable cash burning a hole in my pocket.
first, it costs green stuff to get the artist to make something.
second? most artists want *multiple* of the same payment for the same artwork?
because when its a book cover, a magic wand gets waved and it needs to cost several times as much.

but lets say I have *that* much cash, too. I get the artist and pay them.

LOOK at the tiny THUMBNAIL.
even when you click on my book? it doesn't get much bigger!
the hell is all that money supposed to get me... its getting *squished* anyways.

the whole argument, is just silly.
