I saw this trend on tiktok and it was funny in my opinion, who do you think would win between 100 average men with no weapon vs a silver back gorilla?

The men would win, the gorilla only have two hands and maybe teeth, there's no way it would handle 100 hundred people. It would be even worse for the gorilla if both the human and gorilla would be in peak performance
In my case i would say50/50 that gorilla guy is pretty tough when you look at him closely especially in real life.

My only issue is that the parameter was set "no weapons". I'd assume that means nothing around to craft a weapon with either. Humans actually make for VERY bad predators without some form of killing/damaging tool, especially considering only about 8-12 humans could get within hitting range of the gorilla at a time, before they're too packed to move.

If we even just had a stick each, then maybe. But with literally no weapons? My money is on the gorilla. more powerful arms that would only take one hit, and fangs that, with a single bite could take out a human... He won't be unscathed, but the gorilla is more likely to survive.

I definitely think with weapons and preparation, the gorilla will definitely become a steak lol,the bad is without weapon when you charge towards it and it kills the first few you will not want anything but to run away.

You're forgetting about the advantage of numbers, if the humans are able to completely incapacitate it via blinding it's eyes or going for it's sensitive regions it's game over for it.

Gorilla would lose. Not because it is weaker, but attrition would take a toll. Exhaustion and incremental damage would wear it down before it defeats 100 humans.

Just so everyone is aware, silverback gorillas aren't just a species, it refers to the largest male troop leader gorilla. They only get to that position by defeating other gorillas. A silverback gorilla can lift 800+ kg (1700+ pounds). Even if the men dogpilled it, it would be able to continue fighting. The gorilla would be hurt, sure, but it's like asking if 1 human can fight 100 ducks. We simply lack the natural weapons to be able to fatally wound the gorilla. We aren't strong enough to break it's bones or hurt it's brain. Even tired, the gorilla could easily grab a man by the leg and do this.

Silverbacks are no joke. Sure, there exists a number of humans that could win in hand to hand combat, but I think 100 isn't enough. The silverback WILL land at least 1 in 3 hits, and those hits will be crippling or fatal. Do I think it can attack 300 times before the men exhaust it? Yes. Maybe 500 men would be enough? You have to remember as well, you're only going to be fighting it 1v10 at a time, and only 2 men at most have the ability to even hit the gorilla where it would be hurt realistically (the eyes) at a time.

Man would.

The strategy would be to cling onto the gorilla to slow it down as the others attack it. It will be bloody, but 100-1 is too much of a difference.

If you take actual physics and apply it to the situation then the results might be different than you think. Here's an example, ...

In real life, they say 10% of people do almost all the work in an organization (those 10 people will determine the outcome). Then you have a huge amount of fence sitters that do nothing and don't even have their heart in it. That group would be the biggest say about 60 out of the 100. Then the other 30 would be doing a small amount of half hearted work. That group wouldn't do that much and someone would probably have to compel or threaten them to work.

So... is the 'general' cracking the whip and saying, "anyone who flees gets shot in the head?" (This is how certain countries in red Asia fought WW2.)

If they are unarmed there's no way they'd fight. They'd take their chances and try to run. Even if they have numbers, there's the 'perception of your own survival chances that could affect if they run or flee.

Are the surviving men going to have to tie down the monster gorilla using the ropes made from the slain's intestines and testicles? Are there rocks or trees they can shape into weapons?

Are the men starving from hunger or cannibales? Is Shoeless Joe leading them? How many of them are Generation Z, and are glued to staring at their phones (phone zombies)? (The phone zombies don't stand a chance.)

It could turn out OK or not yet. But this kind of thing could determine a lot, and the losses.

So it is a question of quantity versus quality.

Personally, if both parties, the 100 men and one single silverback gorilla, fought as though their lives didn't matter, I would bet on the 100 men.

Simply put, there is a limit of maximum exertion a gorilla can do and maybe he can continuously oneshot kill multiple men for a prolonged period of time.

But don't forget, exhaustion is a bitch and just like the motherland, if we throw enough men, surely the opposition will soon run out of bullets (stamina).

But if they are playing chicken and the fortnight ring is closing in, high chance is the gorilla, albeit blinded one or both eyes and slightly crippled by the last ditch effort of desperate men.

You know if you're doing it like that then you also have to factor in if the gorilla would even want to fight a hundred people anyway instead of just running away, if that ever happens then it would definitely be game over for the gorilla since humans are mainly built for stamina.

I think everyone here has read a bit too much power fantasy. This isn't a situation where, once exhausted you can even kill the gorilla. How do you propose the men kill the gorilla? They can, at most, blind it. Our teeth can maybe MAYBE do some damage to their muscles. That'd be the humans only chance, to repeatedly bite the gorilla. Throwing rocks won't be enough, the gorillas are too muscular for more than bruising. The average man would very likely never even think to bite it. How many men die before they figure it out? Most men would try to punch, kick, or throw stuff at it. This is just a massacre of men. This question is like asking how many men does it take to fight a ford f-150 and win. Sure, eventually the tank runs out and they can dismantle it, but 100 men isn't enough.
The strategy would be to cling onto the gorilla to slow it down as the others attack it. It will be bloody, but 100-1 is too much of a difference.
You can fit 4, maybe 5 men on the back of the gorilla if you're pushing it. If they're the average man as described, they're 90kg. Sure, half of what the gorilla can carry. Issue for those men is that gorillas can easily grab things on their back, and swing them THROUGH other attacking men like a club.

Silverbacks only become silverbacks by fighting other gorillas in combat repeatedly. These are battle hardened gorillas that fight and win against other gorillas. They know how to fight and how to kill. Further, the 800kg estimate I gave is on the low end for them, that's a weak silverback. Peak silverback bench press strength is like 1800 kg. So, we can put the average at like 1300kg.

Exhaustion is only a factor if the fight is strenuous. Lifting a human man and spinning him around isn't a strenuous activity for a gorilla any more than carrying two grocery bags is for a weightlifter. It's a massacre of men.

For an idea of exactly how one sided this is, this is a chimpanzee getting it's hands on a raccoon. The numbers work out such that the approximate weight and strength is about the same as a human and gorilla. You think 100 raccoons would be able to beat a chimp?

The people who say a gorilla would win are either trolling or are absolutely daft.

The men could simply jump on the gorilla en masse and start twerking, heating the animal to death. Bees do it. And we've conquered bees.
Or both! Never forget the possibility of both!
