Hey guys, just curious as to what kind of music do you listen to when you write out your chapters?
I for one have started to listen to @RasenChidoriSniperShots profile AMVs in youtube because many of his video is very emotional and impactful on many levels.

Depends on the mood...

I usually listen to Sabaton, Japanese music (anime soundtracks, bands, etc.), OPM, English songs, and last but not the list, Classical. The last one is always great when I'm brainstormingf ideas.

I make playlists to match each story I'm writing and each sort of mood or particularly emotional scene that I might encounter. Then, I'll put the appropriate songs on repeat when I need to borrow their energy.

The music chosen can range from Barbie music to power metal. I prefer music with lyrics to really capture the mood, though.

Silence. Literally. My mind has its own beat. Silence is the best. I work much better with the usual quiet ambient of my PC, cars going vroom outside my window and occasional sounds of metal being cut, something getting beaten with a hammer and some curses from the mechanic's garage built in my house.

But yeah. Silence for all.

Due to the fact that I mostly right fiction, medieval-like fantasy adventures, I like listening to medieval kind of music. Not songs, but soundtracks that create the right atmosphere depending on what exactly I write. Usually it's Grimm Music World, the channel has a great collection of different medieval fantasy pieces like tavern/inn music, epic hero music, fantasy adventure music and so on. While writing MoS, I find it very helpful when have to make myself feel in the specific way. Also, when I need something different from medieval fantasy but still very beautiful, I use Years Of Silence music, which varies from old scandinavian folk music to some modern pieces that let my mind concentrate on writing and think of nothing else. Danheim and Gealdýr make great scandinavian background tracks, Peter Gundry creates beautiful dark music. So, as you can see, I tend to listen to background music compilations that last for hours instead of songs because lyrics interrupt my thoughts, while simple tracks help them flow. On the other hand, I'd love to write in silence, because it's really the best background music a writer can ever have, but I come to have no silence in my house at all, except for the nigh-time, so music helps me concentrate. Sometimes, though, I just search for random Epic Villain Music, or Dark Ambient Music, or Celtic Folk Music, depending on what I write, and just don't mind a channel. If I listen to the first few tracks of a compilation, and the music is what I need, I just keep on listening. But more often than not it happens with my role playing games' posts. I can also listen to some light songs like the ones on IndieAir channel when I wright some gaming posts, but it's rather an exception. IndieAir has nice relaxing stuff that helps me with writing deep dramatic and/or romantic moments. Usually I just tend to listen to songs that fit the theme and the characters of my writings before I start writing in order to inspire myself and prepare my mind to work on a specific purpose, then just turn on some random music compilation that fits and get to work.
I hope this will be helpful.

Sincerely yours,
Drak.

If it's not lo-fi playlists them I'm listening to classical instrumentals. I used to be able to write to songs that have lyrics but I found that the lyrics influence what I'm writing so I made the switch. This is only when I'm writing a new chapter.

When I'm editing I listen to anything. Recently I started listening to a lot of soul/r&b like LP, Ben L'oncle Soul, RINI, Daniel Ceasar and sometimes I'll mix in my Jinjer playlist or my Ningen Isu playlist. All depends on my mood.

I listen to a playlist of my favourite songs. Mostly Paramore, Dodie, and a few other rock songs and my favourite which unfortunately makes me stop writing whenever it's on; A Russian Heart.

And in a less wordy way, I also listen to Grimm Music World. It suits my medieval theme and it doesn’t have lyrics to distract me.

I listen to classical music on the radio. Friendship ended with TV, now Radio Orpheus is my best friend.

so far i have this on repeat, but that is mostly due to the plot development I have in my story and this song reflects that.

I also listen to these on repeat most of the time. for this year, anyway.

Depends on what I’m writing. If I’m already struck by inspiration, than I listen to whatever will keep me feeling that inspiration (for example, when I was writing a scene for a fantasy story that took place on an a slave galley, I listened to This). When I am trying to get inspiration, I listen to a mix of Celtic and Scandinavian Folk, video game music ( I particularly like any of the Dragon Age for this), Filk music (For example stuff by Leslie Fish, Julia Ecklar, or Mercedes Lackey), random stuff I find on YouTube, fanmade covers of songs or poems from books, pagan chants, even a few folk rock songs by Blackmore’s Night. And when I am trying to write but am not struck by inspiration, I usually listen to music without lyrics, because the lyrics keep me from concentrating.

It depends heavily on the vibe of the chapter, really.

Basic fantasy or story progression? World of Warcraft soundtrack with some Witcher thrown in during fight scenes.

Maybe I'm writing a war arch? I'll throw some Knights of Cydonia on and hype myself up. I also use some Dream Evil if it's some dragon slaying prophecy nonsense.

Really I'll listen to anything as long as it isn't too loud or distracting. I can't listen to lyrical songs while writing, so no rap.

Whenever I'm writing, I want the environment to stay silent. I get distracted when there are loud noises around and I wouldn't be able to make progress that way.

Distraction is my bane as my concentration can be diverted easily. That's why, whenever I'm writing a chap, I'll head out and stay inside the cabin that I made myself in a nearby forest.
