Due to the fact that I mostly right fiction, medieval-like fantasy adventures, I like listening to medieval kind of music. Not songs, but soundtracks that create the right atmosphere depending on what exactly I write. Usually it's
Grimm Music World, the channel has a great collection of different medieval fantasy pieces like tavern/inn music, epic hero music, fantasy adventure music and so on. While writing MoS, I find it very helpful when have to make myself feel in the specific way. Also, when I need something different from medieval fantasy but still very beautiful, I use
Years Of Silence music, which varies from old scandinavian folk music to some modern pieces that let my mind concentrate on writing and think of nothing else.
Danheim and
Gealdýr make great scandinavian background tracks,
Peter Gundry creates beautiful dark music. So, as you can see, I tend to listen to background music compilations that last for hours instead of songs because lyrics interrupt my thoughts, while simple tracks help them flow. On the other hand, I'd love to write in silence, because it's really the best background music a writer can ever have, but I come to have no silence in my house at all, except for the nigh-time, so music helps me concentrate. Sometimes, though, I just search for random Epic Villain Music, or Dark Ambient Music, or Celtic Folk Music, depending on what I write, and just don't mind a channel. If I listen to the first few tracks of a compilation, and the music is what I need, I just keep on listening. But more often than not it happens with my role playing games' posts. I can also listen to some light songs like the ones on
IndieAir channel when I wright some gaming posts, but it's rather an exception. IndieAir has nice relaxing stuff that helps me with writing deep dramatic and/or romantic moments. Usually I just tend to listen to songs that fit the theme and the characters of my writings
before I start writing in order to inspire myself and prepare my mind to work on a specific purpose, then just turn on some random music compilation that fits and get to work.
I hope this will be helpful.
Sincerely yours,
Drak.
