Sleeping during the day?

It is currently 3:15 pm where I live, but for me it's more like 2:00 am. I'm starting my new job as a night shift security guard this week, so I'm trying to transition into a night shift schedule, staying up all night and sleeping during the day. I'm pretty good at the "staying up all night" part, but the "sleeping during the day" bit is really kicking my butt.

I've got myself locked in my room with only a tiny bit of light getting through the window, and a big fan giving me plenty of white noise. I'm pretty much exhausted from working yesterday and then staying up all night. I even took a melatonin to help me sleep. But I just can't do it. I slept for a couple hours, but now I'm just lying here wide awake watching the hours tick by. No matter how tired I am, my brain just can't accept that daytime is for anything besides a quick nap.

What do? Am eepy badger. Help. :(

Here's a practical tip: make sure your blood pressure is low. In addition to sleeping pills, you need a sedative or instead of him.
The main element is your blood pressure. You can use a cheap, affordable, and low-potency medication as a sleeping pill or a migraine remedy.
Melatonin does not work as a sleeping pill - it is a sleep hormone that is produced during sleep. This makes the process of sleeping easier, but it does not make you sleep. Melatonin tablets can be taken when there is a lack of melatonin due to insomnia.

Here is what I was taught. With your eyes closed begin focusing on relaxing your body part by part. And when that fails... Jerk off and roll over.

Watch some stuff.
Asmr or any other vids you like.
Maybe take a warm shower/bath, heat relaxes the muscles.

I know how you feel. I hate night shifts.

A night mask for the lights, a radio or asmr on loop for white noise. Oh, I find vampire survivors and other games like that also put me to sleep.

I think it might take a little while for you to start turning into an owl and getting used to life as a nocturnal creature, but something I know helps the building’s night guard where I live sleep during the morning is staying in a dark, well-cooled room, closing his eyes, and relaxing, listening to meditation sounds also helps a lot, as does eating light meals before sleeping and trying not to dwell on problems, It’s also best to keep electronics (your phone, laptop, TV) away when you’re trying to sleep.

I hope you managed to get some rest and sleep before your shift.

I managed to get a couple more hours. I have a feeling this is just going to continue until I get so exhausted that I have no choice but to sleep through the whole day.

It should be fine. I don't actually start work until Thursday night.

I had my company orientation today. I also found out that I'm not going to be working the night shift. Yeah, despite applying for a night shift, interviewing for a night shift, and being hired for a night shift, a couple days after my job offer another guard decided he wanted the night shift, so they just gave it to him. Kinda disappointing, especially after I spent the last few days adjusting myself to a new sleep schedule.

And they couldn’t inform you earlier? Pretty irresponsible.

White noise can sometimes have a mixed effect on sleep. Most people find it easier to fall asleep when there is very little "total noise," and even people who can't sleep in total silence find fairly quiet spaces most restful. The point of white noise is to dampen "attention grabbing" sounds like voices or ringing phones. If your bedroom does not have a lot of sudden or distracting noises, a whirring fan is probably making things worse. Try a lower setting on the fan, or placing it a bit outside your room.
An important point: if you feel you have a lot of energy, you need to use it! Do some exercise with a mix of muscle and cardio; get your arms or legs burning along side being out of breath. If you want to go to bed after your session you win. After exercise, take a cool shower (not joltingly cold but it should feel cooler than your skin) to help slow your heartrate and make your warm bed even more inviting.

Ugh, find another job if they're going to play around with you like that.
The constant switching is NOT good for your health in the long run.
Hopefully this will be the last time. Now that I've officially been assigned a shift, someone with more seniority can't just decide they want it. Probably.

You're taking a lot of chances. Why not go for a job you really want, at hours you'd be comfortable with? You found this job, you can certainly find another. In fact, continue job hunting while you're working.

Because I lost my last job in October, but I'd been applying for new ones since, like, March or April. It took almost a whole year to get a single offer from anybody who paid anything remotely close to a livable wage. I can keep applying, but my chances of finding something better than this are extremely slim.

Besides, now that everything's been settled, this is probably going to be the best job I've ever had. According to my coworkers, 90% of this job is just sitting around keeping yourself occupied, and management doesn't care if I use that time to write. Even during the day, the people I worked with were watching movies on their computers and reading books.

As someone who did shift work for quite a while I can comment on this.

1.) Darkness: At least for me buying blackout blinds was a must.

2.) Exorcise: If you don't have a very active job then getting your heart rate up a bit helps.

3.) Consistency: Try to go to sleep at the same time every day, around an hour is safe.

Of note is downtime. Related to the above, the human body has a down time, so most people get really tired around the same time, for an hour or so and if they push past then they get a second wind. So if someone has to stay up all night working, don't be sitting down at a normal bed time. It is really easy to fall asleep at work doing that.
