No one is going to understand someone who pretends to be a muffin.

Some people will just argue until they're blue in the face.

Its like the very idea that someone disagrees with them is a foreign concept. Im just like 'No, I understood you perfectly from the very beginning and this is what I think. Deal with it.'

Actually. To be honest, I really think you didn't understand what he was saying.
He was just pointing out how the picture could be interpreted as sexual.
You know that women in other parts of the world cover up everything and wear loose clothing so their body won't be outlined.

He wasn't saying that it should be banned, or that it was bad.
I like the cover by the way.

It's just he was pointing out something and you were arguing something else. It happens often, and he was just trying to be understood.

No I understood perfectly. And I think its incorrect based on my own values and where I live. Furthermore, many Women where I live would agree with me.

It may be the gender divide at work here, but I see it very differently.

Fair?

It does not really matter if that image is or is not sexual in nature. What matters is if said picture could be perceived as such by big enough part of audience. If yes - you are out. Simple as that.

And unfortunately for you, skin tight suit on top of those curves could easily be perceived in such light even though there were no indecent intentions.

The same body type and pose with slightly bulkier suit that doesn't show abdomen muscles and breaks curves a bit could probably pass those checks.

P.S. While swimsuit is socially accepted on the beach, wearing one to the office would not be seen as favorable in most cases and I doubt you'll like those exceptions.

P.P.S. It were women who pushed for those policies to begin with, all the "We don't want woman body to be sexualized and used for ads that way!" and so on. While reasonable in nature, actual implementation of that request ended up becoming shit as usual.

A lot of people here are from other countries.
So subjective things like that will be interpreted differently.

I dont care.

Im not going to put my characters in a hijab for them, or wear one myself. Its interesting that they think that my real life culture is irrelevant, as well as the culture of the society in the book itself is irrelevant, but they think their views from their culture are?

Tolerance. They dont have to like it, but Im not changing my life, internet, stories or characters for them, either.

Okay, this tells me you don’t understand.

But it’s fine.
Have a nice day.

I summed it up pretty well here.

As for Royal Road, I deleted my account there. Statement made.

No, I get it.

Maybe you dont.

Do Japanese studios censor their anime or manga for other cultures? Maybe if they are porting something over to that locale, but no, they generally dont.

Case made. If RR wants to reflect that, so be it. I wont have anything to do with it.

I just want to be clear on this before any more people want to come in here and argue over nothing.

Sexual in nature =/= need to ban.
Something can be sexual, and still be fine to look at.
We don't ban children from the swimming pool.
Iceland/Sweden, some communities have public nudity in locker rooms with both sexes at the same time.

Yet another assumption. You're clearly seeing that I'm a red velvet muffin, yet assuming about my color despite all of that.
No, I understood you perfectly from the very beginning and this is what I think. Deal with it.
Let me quote:
No, thats just you projecting.
Its because you looked and thought that.
No thats literally you projecting.
Maybe you love censorship but most the rest of us dont.
And I felt like your post was a personal attack on facts and truth.
You can believe whatever you want and project as much as you want. It is a projection. End of story.
See? You keep on assuming things. You didn't understood what I were saying since the beginning.

No I understood perfectly. And I think its incorrect based on my own values and where I live. Furthermore, many Women where I live would agree with me.
No, you didn't understood @Anon2025 did:
It's just he was pointing out something and you were arguing something else.
He was just pointing out how the picture could be interpreted as sexual.

Im not going to put my characters in a hijab for them, or wear one myself.
Did anyone ask you to do tho?
Its interesting that they think that my real life culture is irrelevant,
Did I say anything remotely related to this? Did I ever talk about your real life culture? You clearly assumed something I never said nor mention.
as well as the culture of the society in the book itself is irrelevant,
See? You still haven't understood what I said, read it again:
I clearly pointed out that I'm talking about why the cover got rejected (the style of clothes on that specific image and nothing else) and said the culture inside the story is not the standard for evaluation.

but they think their views from their culture are?
Yet another assumption. My opinion was relevant to the topic since I clearly stated that I made the judgment based on references, and by reference I meant something related to the topic at hand, which is other novels' covers. I never talked about my culture nor use it for reference.

They dont have to like it, but Im not changing my life, internet, stories or characters for them, either.
Did I ever said I dislike it or otherwise? Did I ever ask you to change anything? I only stated my judgment and opinion based on references related to the topic at hand.

Honestly, I can't care less for RR and fate of your story there, that dumpster on fire of a site could as well cease existing. But you decided to not read or to not think while reading and to respond with emotions instead so I'll be slightly harsher.

How would you like your cover image to be posted on r34 website? I'll do no such thing but it'll end up there sooner or later anyway if you'll have enough readers.

I deleted my account at RR, so...it is what it is.

I also have no idea what R34 is....but whatever I guess, I wouldnt really care. Aside from perhaps copyright issues.

So I had a particularly bad experience on RoyalRoad, simply from trying to post my first story there. I'm thinking about coming over to ScribbleHub instead, as a result....and without trashing RR too much, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had an experience like mine?

Essentially my submission kept getting these vague rejections like "We allow sexual content on this site, but it can't be the focus of the story blah blah blah, we are worried your submission may be too suggestive blah blah blah" and I was really flabbergasted. Because keep in mind, my story wasn't erotica or smut or anything like that. It was a genderbender/mecha title...kind of like Evangelion or Gundam Wing. But it wasn't fanfic...it was an original universe. And the first chapter obviously has zero sexual content.

And it even included this disclaimer in the synopsis:

"There is romance. It may have some of the elements of a harem, though that is not the primary element of it, and its definitely not the type you typically see in anime. I also marked it for having possible sexual content, though I haven't planned any as of yet. It may be included in specially marked chapters later on if I feel it fits."

So a moderaror kept rejecting it with these vague messages, despite that disclaimer being there from the start. So I removed the sexual content tags entirely, and sent in an angry support ticket like "I just wont include it at all then. Fine. Its a Gundam style story anyways so its not that important to the plot! So stop rejecting it. Jeez. Right?

Then it gets rejected AGAIN. This time he wants me to change the cover because he says it's 'incredibly sexual.' And demands that I change the cover art...which I paid money for. So now I'm really upset by this point and was just like...what is their malfunction?

The cover art was pretty modest. It was just a curvy girl in a kind of body hugging space suit. Like the kind you see the females wear in some sci-fi/mecha (non-ecchi mind you) anime/manga. She IS thick. Maybe a tad overweight (but notnquite chubby). But fully covered from head to toe. No skin showing below the neck. No transparent sections either, in the suit itself. And her pose was a neutral standing pose...not anything suggestive.

So I'm super mad. I flat out refused. Now I'm waiting for one of the site owners over there to review the case (since I asked for an escalation above that mod). But he said she is "stricter" than him. Which is even weirder. So whatever, we'll see I guess.

But listen guys, am I the crazy one here? lol.
I just feel like they are straight up banning any images of women who's bodily dimensions exceed some vague skinny parameter. Like she must be in violation of RR's rules, subsection Double-D or something. (lol!)

I mean she was sexy...but that was it. It wasn't to a crazy level.

For reference here is my 'incredibly sexual' cover art:

Discord & Reddit mods when seeing smut: "Oooh, another f## material!"
RR mods live reaction to book with little to none smut:

The bottom line is this...I dont write erotica or smut. My cover art is not X rated or even R rated. Onesies and body suits are pretty normal where I live, as are bathing suits. Thats it really.

I dont have an issue when someone finds something sexy. Thats fine and inoffensive. I have an issue when people start projecting their own thoughts and feelings and inconviencing me when quite frankly, I never asked in the first place.

Also, saying something is sexy isnt a problem either. Thats a personal feeling. Saying its inherently sexual in nature is.

Moderator John doesn't quite have feelings, let alone thoughts

What he does is screaming "I GAVE YOU AN ORDER! DO YOU UNDERSTAND SOLDIER?"

You are expected to answer "SIR, YES, SIR!"

The definition of words is basically up to Moderator John's discretion, and the only thing you are supposed to do is obey what he says the rules are at the given moment.

They are fairly used to their action having no consequences unless their superiors are involved.
