Or you can personally contact the owner, @Tony to get your suggestions across.
Tony is silent. And he already wrote that with any questions you should contact [email protected]. By the way, keep quiet there too. At least, no one has responded since yesterday. There isn't even a simple "wait".
There are so many free neural networks in the world, they could install the simplest one on an answering machine.

You talk about it as if fanfics were banned. It simply no longer shows the tip button under fanfics. Don't be this overdramatic, and if you think it's because Tony listens to what is happening in the forums, I can point you to hundreds of suggestions and requests that never even got a look at.

It is happening because of sheer scale and the issues they present, issues that Sailus had pointed out years ago. Do we even know how many DMCA emails Tony received? No, but to make changes like this, I can be fairly certain that some legit ones began landing in that Yahoo inbox.
Can't reason with Karens and Kens.

This is clearly some kind of Overton window. People on this forum have been complaining about certain stuff for years. I guess they got what they wanted. But the window keeps moving. First it targetted translations. Now fanfiction, which caused major contention here last year. If it's purely for legal reasons, the site should've done this years ago. Applying it while many users, who have commited time and effort into the platform, were unprepared and unaware, is bordering on unfair treatment. I feel like people who have built readerships should be informed before termination.

It also seems like smut rules are slowly being enforced now too. Some authors I read have already been affected by this shift. Nobody should be surprised the forum is flooded with annoyed readers and angry authors, to be completely frank. If there's a wider shift in how the site is going to operate from now on, clearing the air would be nice. Like maybe a sitewide announcement on the main, or an automated message to every single user. Makes the transitoin easier.

So what's the next target? Smut? If so, what is the intended direction of the site?

Man, you were informed when you started working at the place. The place said no smoking on the job, but you went behind everyone's back and smoked anyways. Then you are surprised when the boss says, "you're fired."

Fanfictions haven't been removed as far as I'm aware, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I don't write smut, but I don't think it should be targeted honestly. AO3 does perfectly fine while allowing it.

This place acts like a circlejerk. No room for discussion. Just shitposts, reports and memes. Unilateral consensus glued together by moral incongruence. Kek

Translations weren’t allowed from the very beginning. It’s just that Tony never acted on those rules. For translations, there is the sister site “NovelUpdates,” where you are redirected to sites hosting the translations, which in 99% of cases are illegal and violate copyright, which would or will cause Tony problems. Don’t forget the sheer amount of flooding some translators did.

As for fanfics, you just can’t promote your Patreon, etc., for them anymore, which should be obvious since you cannot earn money from them.

Well, what do you want to discuss? Translations by the original author/authorized translations are allowed and have been sorted through in a separate thread. Fanfictions legally are not allowed to be sold or paywalled unless the original holder of the IP gives explicit permission or distributes it through a commercial license. Fanfictions have not been removed, only the tip button has been removed.

I personally don't see the issue anywhere seeing as making profit off someone else's work via an unauthorized translation is disgusting and the latter is literally standard IP law. If you disagree with the former, I'm unsure what to say. If you disagree with the latter, you should probably get into politics to get something changed there instead of posting on an online forum.

The only real point of discussion here is hitting smut which I don't think should happen at all. There is nothing wrong with smut unless it's depicting something that shouldn't be (you're intelligent enough to know what I mean). The site also already has built-in content warning buttons.

This is why you don't represent yourself in court, because you will display your utter ignorance before the jury.
A kangaroo court is still a court unfortunately.

Well, what do you want to discuss?
I'm a contrarian. I ruffle feathers by nature. My only concern is simply the timeframe in which the sudden moderation is being hammered down by. And the few people undeserving affected by automated systems and such. I understand the legal ramifications presented by 70% of what is filling the website, I just feel it's a tad bit unfair without warning. But as is stated, terms and conditions are clear. But you have to acknowledge, fan fiction getting half a hangman's noose in a week since the translations ban, is clearly the site restructuring for whatever reasons.(muh legal reasons) No one should be surprised that people will complain. (Even if it's just me) Seriously.

For a lot of us. Fanfiction a decade and a half ago, was an entry-point into web fiction, seeing a little slice of the internet die everywhere because of legality, naturally annoys me.

There is nothing else to discuss, because everyone just parrots the same talking points. Apologies for disrupting happy times. I will see myself out of the forums.

The base of your argument is not getting warned about breaking the rules.

You don't get a real-life warning when you commit any type of crime, be it speeding, stealing, jaywalking, etc. The plea of not understanding/knowing/reading/comprehending the rules, because it was not announced/rubbed into your face at the point of registration, is asinine.

People ignore reading the content guidelines when uploading their books. It stated everything, way before you or most complainers even registered.

Too bad. There is nobody who has to give a grace period, warn you, or anything. Break rules or break laws, get the consequences. It is that simple.

PS:

I wrote fanfics myself. Never monetized them, because it's against the rules. That's simple. Do I want to earn money with my writing? Duh. But I'm not delusional, so I have a normal job to earn a living.
