For a lot of us. Fanfiction a decade and a half ago, was an entry-point into web fiction, seeing a little slice of the internet die everywhere because of legality, naturally annoys me.
15 years ago fanfics were written by fans for fans and were for the vast majority not monetised in any way, these days its the reverse.

The base of your argument is not getting warned about breaking the rules.

You don't get a real-life warning when you commit any type of crime, be it speeding, stealing, jaywalking, etc. The plea of not understanding/knowing/reading/comprehending the rules, because it was not announced/rubbed into your face at the point of registration, is asinine.

People ignore reading the content guidelines when uploading their books. It stated everything, way before you or most complainers even registered.

Too bad. There is nobody who has to give a grace period, warn you, or anything. Break rules or break laws, get the consequences. It is that simple.

PS:

I wrote fanfics myself. Never monetized them, because it's against the rules. That's simple. Do I want to earn money with my writing? Duh. But I'm not delusional, so I have a normal job to earn a living.
Ignorance of the law isn't an excuse. And since this is a privately-owned site, the owner can do whatever he wants, regardless of your demands.

And the few people undeserving affected by automated systems and such.
Yeah, I get that and it sucks especially for legitimate authors. I can't speak for other authors, but the ones I've seen come on the forums managed to get their issues resolved.

The fanfictions are still up! Only the tip button has been removed, but the fictions themselves haven't been touched.

The enforcement of the rules have been rapid, yes, but the "warning" has been present for quite a while. Those terms and rules have existed for a long time, people just don't read them.

Yep. Everything has to be subscription slop nowadays.

I just feel it's a tad bit unfair without warning.
But the warning for translators was always there. Right in the content guidelines. If you skipped or ignored it, that's entirely on you.
But you have to acknowledge, fan fiction getting half a hangman's noose in a week since the translations ban, is clearly the site restructuring for whatever reasons.
Fanfictions are still allowed, just not allowed to advertise patron links and such, but again, earning money from them was always illegal, so that should not be a surprise (I seriously doubt even a single fanfiction on this site is licensed).

I feel sorry for those innocent authors who got caught in the crossfire, and for the few translators who acted in good faith and reported their own works, but I just don't see your problem. Everything you are complaining about was either always against the rules or outright illegal, and if you committed your time into that, you only have yourself to blame for getting hit with the consequences.

It would probably help if people on this forum didn't immediately have kneejerk reactions to people posting about their 404'd work and accuse them of various things, and instead gave the benefit of the doubt that using a clanker to get rid of all translation work will have false positives.

Would also help if:

-these 404'd people would've read the T&Cs they agreed to when they registered an account, or uploaded a book.

-these 404'd peeps would stop whining and accuse the people answering their demands and queries of everything to piss them off.

-these 404'd peeps to have the patience to wait for their contest of their 404'd works. The person running this place is alone in making much of the decisions, including whose work gets a second chance.

You got various people from all around the globe logging in this place, thus, the variety of reactions to certain behaviors. While we are generally reasonable, there is a limit to how much we can tolerate unreasonable demands and statements.

We ran out of those, and they have been out of stock for a year now.

It's almost like this a is small, privately owned site run by one person and not webnovel or youtube. :blob_hmm:
Well, in the words of Tony himself, "I don't entrust this place to others anymore, mainly because I still end up having to run this alone."

Non-verbatim, but that's one of his reasons (the one I actually saw in one of the threads here).

It would probably help if people asking about 404 or fanfics would... I don't know... would learn to fucking read? Almost all the time the first person to reply in those threads were L1aei or Dec, coming there with content guidelines link, telling them to wait, but for some reason it is never enough of an answer.

Gee I wonder where your reddit term comes from.
A kangaroo court is still a court unfortunately.

I'm a contrarian. I ruffle feathers by nature. My only concern is simply the timeframe in which the sudden moderation is being hammered down by. And the few people undeserving affected by automated systems and such. I understand the legal ramifications presented by 70% of what is filling the website, I just feel it's a tad bit unfair without warning. But as is stated, terms and conditions are clear. But you have to acknowledge, fan fiction getting half a hangman's noose in a week since the translations ban, is clearly the site restructuring for whatever reasons.(muh legal reasons) No one should be surprised that people will complain. (Even if it's just me) Seriously.

There is nothing else to discuss, because everyone just parrots the same talking points. Apologies for disrupting happy times. I will see myself out of the forums.

Oppa, you are assuming people can read! Think of the people in your feedback thread!

Assuming people can read? Me? I don't assume anything, I expect things. I expect a lot of entitlement, and I expect unaffected people thinking of translators and fanfic writers same way that hero dude thought of that demon kid in Frieren. So far we got both.
