Yeah, but my daily views have been down. Especially compared to trending novels who can get 3k to 8k per day. I hover around 500 to 1k per day.

It's only a matter of time until they overtake me, and it has happened many times before.

If I might make a suggestion- most most popular authors at some point try writing next novel, and write 2 at a time. It both helps with readers (as readers of one try the other), and, well, most novels do reach their limit at some point. Not saying that's true for your novel, but might be worth trying.

Keep on it! As long as you keep growing your daily numbers, you're fine.

Unlike mine that seems to be plateauing (or even declining).

Reader count doesn't matter much unfortunately since this site doesn't send notifications whenever a story you follow update. A lot of readers have hundreds of stories in their list that they don't read.

Whoa, I didn't know that. So which metric should we be looking at?

Oh boy.

I've been thinking on doing that. Make an MC that's more palatable to the masses.

But on the other hand, I love writing him. And I don't have an idea for a different MC that I love just as much.

Just views, really. And if you have a Patreon, Patreon subs (which I sadly only have two).

Comments are great too, if they're the good kind.

Not to be mean but also want to point this out to you. You have a tendency to feel bummed on anything that seems to be negative in your view to your story. Your story has a lot of views, a lot of more ratings, and a lot of favorites - and that is more than some or even many of the writers on this forum.

Look at many other stories out there. Even if your daily views are starting to go down, you still have like 30x the amount of views and way more people like your story.

Look at my stories and compare it to yours. If you are counting by reads, you have a lot more readers. If you're counting by favorites, you have a lot more favorites.

I know its hard and its normal to feel bummed out when you feel there's criticism of your works because us humans aren't always that great at accepting criticism and improving from it. We tend to deflect and defend ourselves, even when some of those criticism really are constructive and point out the flaws we need to work on. I also know its hard when you feel like you worked hard and you were really good on the top list, but slowly been falling off that list. Its normal to feel not so great when you were once the best or the top, and now you're no longer as liked. It is also not uncommon even the ones that are good can struggle with feeling like they are not making any progress.

But the point is, nothing is always 100% negative as you made it out to be. Too hard on yourself or only seeing everything in a negative light will do you no good. You need to work on improving and pull yourself up together. Don't just talk about how it sucks. Look around. There's ones that have it far less than you. Open up to some feedback and advice (weed out bad ones, re-look at the constructive ones), and then work and push 'til you can become stronger and better.

Yea, but all your stories combined are nowhere near the 500k+ behemoth my story is.

It's to be expected that a long story will have more stats than a short one. It's called accumulation.

But if you can get a lot more views with far less words, that's the gem right there.

And how many of them reach the 500k milestone?

I only found a poor few who had written a lot with barely any gains. And I feel sorry for them. And even outside of writing, I know a fan game who no one knows, even though it's a really fun game to play.

Exactly. A lot of your comments in many threads and even on your profile mention how horrible it feels whenever you felt some views are going down, or that you have some reviews (i've read them before in another thread where you talked about your reviews. those were actually very constructive reviews and feedback).

What I'm saying is learn to be more humble and accept some criticism or grow some thick skin. Yeah sure, a lot of our stories are nowhere as many views or many words as yours. We don't lament on it as much as you do. We may grumble about it but then we move on to many other topics. Some of us is also more willing to accept criticism (constructive one mind you. not the horrible rude ones which can see themselves to the door).

And yes, its not about how many words you wrote. Its about the quality you wrote. You can write over a 100k, 200k, 400k, even 800k words for a story. But if the plot or characters are not great, there's not much development or things that happen in the story don't really make a lot of sense for where things were supposedly going like in the last previous many chapters of the story, then you're gonna see some that don't like it.

There's nothing constructive about complaining the premise of the story (hint: it's in the title). They wanted me to write a different story, with a different MC. Or to retcon 110+ chapters worth of material.

Is there anything I can use from them to develop my story? Nothing. Unless I start another story.

I love my MC as he is. And a number of my readers too. Even if they don't love them as a person. Since it's already an improvement from the hollow isekai protagonist you find all over the genre.

What I'm saying is learn to be more humble and accept some criticism or grow some thick skin.

In short, stop complaining and just write.

I'm glad I start to stockpile advance chapters for Patreon, even if it meant slowing down updates here. I'm not a robot that's just here for your pleasure.

I don't believe my story has any of those flaws to be honest. Some of the reviews I've gotten agreed.

Fair enough. You've written it long enough that its like your own children. You get upset whenever someone comments on your children bc you have worked so hard to take care and make them the way they are bc afterall, they are your children. Its your hard work.
In short, stop complaining and just write.

I'm not a robot that's just here for your pleasure.
This is the stupidest twist on words, those two sentences. I'm not telling you to just shut up and write. And you're definitely ain't a robot for anyone's sake either. I'm just saying, whenever someone notes something down or comment about it, you basically revert to thinking they're forcing something on you. They're not always. I'm sorry if you came across rude readers, but there is a difference between rude readers and constructive criticism.

However, look around. How many others always lament on their stories not getting enough views and reads? Ik a couple, but they are not even as far well-known and liked as your stories are. You have over 6000 favorites for pete's sake. Most people would agree with you on how some readers can be assholes, but you comment on it so much, that it seems like that is majority of your comments are just lamenting whenever there's a slight nudge about your story that you can't accept and that sorta starts to irk others.

Maybe you can cherish yourself more. You can cherish your story, but also keep a more open mind.

Put it to note, the tone you carry is one that is above others. The way you mentioned how others don't have as much written as you, so therefore they cannot judge you is.... You're above others. Your reviews and ratings should never be one-two stars or three stars because its so good. Reviews are never constructive, but they are all just bad and negative.
I don't believe my story has any of those flaws to be honest. Some of the reviews I've gotten agreed.
No story is without some flaws.
Eh, my plateau had started way back before I stopped being nice.
Its not that a lot of people really hate you and try to shovel something down your mouth to write. Its the fact that you always lament on it yet you are also doing pretty good, better than others on this site, that it starts to irks some.

One can cherish and love their story while also be more open mind that yes some flaws exist.
Like my stories. I like it. But I also agree its not the best. I know I rush towards the end and I don't always make smooth transitions. But do I feel proud of my stories? You betcha. And you don't have to write so many words to feel proud of your story either.

Its like lamenting you're poor when you drive a porsche versus some of us cramming into a very tight public transit bc public transportation is our only way of transport that we can afford.

Oh, definitely not. I get a lot of advices on where to go with my story (at least early on). And even now, I still occasionally ask my readers for their preferences.

it seems like that is majority of your comments are just lamenting whenever there's a slight nudge about your story that you can't accept and that sorta starts to irk others.

Probably because I don't comment a lot in this forum in the first place.

So, when there's an opportunity to whine, I take it. :s_tongue:

Yeah, not my intention. I'm just sick of people telling me what not to say in an online forum.

No story is without some flaws.

Definitely. Nobody is perfect.

Then just write a long ass novel like mine instead of whining about it. Longer novels = More views

Ofc. And when we do, we will also try not to "whine" a lot about it like certain others too. :)

Also, keep in mind, stop referring to everyone using you as a robot and forcing you to write to their pleasure just bc they point out some things. :)
