i think lot of readers like certain genres so they like reading same stories with very similar plotlines again and again. like those who love reading badboy romance.

i like read certain genres too, but some more uniqueness and originality than plots that basically has a very obvious skeleton of another story. not even a skeleton, but like something that is same, just with different colors: this one blue, i shall make another green with wings. also ones that are more believable, unless i really really really am just wanting to get a quick read.

I actually like your open-mindedness about this matter. And about some of your other posts.

Accepting the fact that some things cannot be changed no matter how hard we argue isn't productive. It's like shouting in empty air.

If people can't stand the sight, they can leave.

Sure, as an author we might be affected, then all of us might leave too due to decreased viewership.

But that doesn't matter. What we focus on is the present, and what we can do to satisfy our current readers. It's their choice to follow our novels. Or we could simply not write at all.

Mm yeah, I'm in agreement that it's not just one or two things that make novels become popular. It's usually the whole package - a combination of a number of things - and an understanding of a market or how it fits in one that makes certain novels a hit.

I'm looking at the front page and a number of the top trending novels have no cover. A colourful, attractive cover does make people click on the novel to take a look (it looks inviting at a glance), but I feel that on sites like these premises are pretty important too, next to a catchy title and an exciting or attractive summary.

Our first page stats (overall views) are interestingly a very good indicator of how good we are at pulling (a.k.a. drawing immediate interest). Initial chapter views show how good we are at persuading (getting the target audience to click and read) and subsequent chapter views show how good we are at maintaining a readership. Valid Reads are a good indicator of how it's interesting enough to read and not just end up skimmed material.

The bumps in the view graph outside of update days show how effective any marketing or promotion is. It's actually these bumps that I'm very interested in. My dad's big on marketing (he was a marketeer for over 40 years) and I sort of inherited his love for it. Mostly for events and spaces though! Corona was particularly rough on me. I miss participating in events and helping to set stalls/booths up... I also miss anime cons...

Yeah, but my daily views have been down. Especially compared to trending novels who can get 3k to 8k per day. I hover around 500 to 1k per day.
