    Unpopular opinion

If by unpopular you mean people believe this and aren't happy about it, then yes, this is an unpopular opinion. If you mean it's unpopular because most would disagree, then no.

What the most wholesome thing in your story

The MC's best friend from childhood is a huge 2+ meter tall bruiser. He also is a member of the 'Book Finders Guild', who accept commissions to collect pre- collapse books and using multiple copies, restore them. Wealthy buyers will get copies where the pages are rebound to make a complete book...

    How to rank adventurer.

This always annoyed me. I would rather just see 'Unmeasurable' because at some point any difference is immaterial and are their really enough people at that level for it to matter? It always struck me as bad writing- they kept on giving the character more power to beat a threat, and then had to...

    A question for sci-fi readers/writers

Distance plus a Laissez Faire attitude. The central administration keeps things running and keeps conflicts confined to a planetary level, otherwise the systems are mostly left to their own devices within a broad framework. Military power is great but widely spread. An individuals span of...

    Are you a cunt?

As the question is written, no. If it was 'Would you sacrifice all of humanity to become a god?' This would leave me much more conflicted....

    Chanting spells

Both can be done well. But overall I prefer chanting. Not sure if you would call it 'chanting' as they are in a made up language, but I liked how the thu'ums from Skyrim were done- to learn you need the ability, an item(dragon soul), and to find the location, and each syllable unlocks more...

How to kill off important characters en masse?

Or, given what site this is, make it an Eldritch Whore and get multiple genres covered.

How to kill off important characters en masse?

Terrorist attack or other major wartime event, pandemic or natural disaster. Depending on your story setting/genre this could determine how this looks. But regardless, unless it's a military story where the deaths are kinda expected, you're risking alienating alot of readers.

What Required Reading book could you not finish?

So, so many... Madame Bovary, Grapes of Wrath. Anything by Charles Dickens. Nothing kills the joy of reading like high school English. I still remember a conversation I had with my English teacher: Me: Why do we have to read this? Teacher: Because it's a classic. Me: Why? Teacher, after hemming...

I just realized about writing a fighting scene

From my perspective, you're giving waaayyy to much detail. The best fight scenes I have read keep it brief. Ex: Duck. Weave. Dodge. Blows and counter blows shattered the surrounding landscape. Both were breathing heavy, painting the ground with sweat and blood. Just give the reader the bear...

What would you do with Fixed Time-travel?

Probably days or weeks as farther out your memory of events gets less exact. Unless, of course, there was a specific event I was looking to impact.

    What did you learn today?

Having a sensor that will alert you when your brake pads get low doesn't do you any good if the calipers rust and the brakes can't engage.

    My culinary experiment

If you want an interesting drink addition, look up 'Shrubs', aka 'Drinking Vinegars'. They are pretty simple: the basic recipe is mix equal parts(by weight) fruit+sugar, wait 48 hrs, add vinegar, wait a day or two. Then drain off the fruit and add a tablespoon or so of the liquid to wine...

    Non-English words/phrases in fantasy.

I will take real world languages, apply some 'modifications' so it's similar but different and use that as foreign languages in story. Usually I don't translate it as the reader can either get the jist based on how the mc reacts and replies, or is as clueless as the character trying to figure...

Does anyone know of a good research resource for fairy lore?

I do searches narrowing down the region so like 'Fae creatures of Scotland'. This got me a few links and sources with about 40 critters, some well known but a few pretty obscure ones. But I think the Ghillie Dhu might work for the fae you want...

    Mosquitoes

Encourage lots of birds by having multiple feeders from late fall through early spring, then remove the feeders. Birds still come to area as they are accustomed to being fed, and now are feasting on the insects.

As a reader, how important is an author following a schedule?

I try to wait a little while between checking to build up a backlog of chapters versus drip feeding one at a time. As a reader it is frustrating when there is no schedule and can be a month between updates.
