Writing I have one chapter to make my wife cry

It's hard to force a reader to cry. Readers often cry because they're drawn into the psychology of the characters in the story. And it's hard to make a character feel alive and organic. Having them die tragically — just to make the reader cry will only make the story seem melodramatic. I once...

    When do you call 911...?

Of course, I'd call 911 (or some similar emergency number) when I saw a man looking at a little girl with sparkling eyes. Well, this is just a joke. In reality, I'd almost never call 911. Not only is it wrong to misuse the emergency number, but the police in my country are often corrupt. You...

How many chapters does it take on average to start gaining steady writer?

5K words for one chapter?! That's too much. You should cut the big chapter into three smaller ones.

How many chapters does it take on average to start gaining steady writer?

There are several things you can improve without overly blaming yourself: First, you can replace your cover with an anime/LN cover. SH readers tend to prefer LN/anime covers. It's even better if your cover features an elegant heroine. Second, for new novels, it's recommended to release short...

    Uncommon writing advice

I agree with you. Short chapters tend to sell only on SH. Other platforms (like Inkitt, purrfiction, and WN) generally standardize a minimum of 1.5k words per chapter to be worthy of release.

    Uncommon writing advice

You can simplify scenes, eliminate repetition, reduce body language, and speed up the pacing. This will make the chapters shorter but more effective.

First time Scribbler. Does my Story Have a Chance?

You have to realize the hard truth: most readers don't read because your content is good; they read because it aligns with their preferences. Even if your content is as good as LOTR, if readers dislike it, your novel will likely be ignored.

    Uncommon writing advice

Did you know that short chapters (700 to 1.5k words) are preferred over long chapters (>2k words) for a new novel? It's best to post short chapters to gain visibility in the beginning. Long chapters will only be read if you already have a large reader base.

Feedback is great, but the feedback from statistics is more insightful for me.

Of course, good feedback is honest comments born from the reader's concern. It's not empty, deceptive praise. Unfortunately, you (especially new writers) will encounter the latter type of feedback more often.

Just wondering... how many crossposting do you do (as in how many websites?)

Let's count... SH, RR, Honeyfeed, Purrfiction, Inkitt, Web Novel, AO3, and a local site. That's eight websites. But SH is the one I update the most regularly. Edit: I revised this 3 times because I overlooked so many websites. Lol

    Story Release Stratagies

I know that... I didn't include the time zone because it makes the calculations complicated. But at least she/he can estimate her/his own time zone based on general time patterns, for example, 6 PM in Thailand = 7 AM in the US.

    Story Release Stratagies

General strategy for releasing a story: (1) Release chapters regularly, 2-4 chapters per week. (2) Try to release them on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, when the days are relatively free. (3) If you want to reach a wider readership, you can release during prime times, usually in the...

What app/program do you use for outlining your plots?

You should save your character designs in the SH glossary. Character designs include background, appearance, personality, ideology, powers, and relationships between characters. I do this in my novels, especially for important characters who I'll continue to play throughout each arc. For minor...

Flashbacks: spread out or all together?

I like to gradually incorporate flashbacks as the lore expands as the main conflict progresses. My own novel structure also tends to be non-linear—moving forward and backward. Because I'm taking the timeline seven years after the world's amnesia, for every forward-moving conflict, I have to...

New writer, how does anyone get readers here?

I appreciate your unwavering commitment to your original ideas. The literary world truly needs more experimental work to enrich fiction and avoid being trapped in mainstream tropes. However, I also know that the road is lonely and silent. You know... many authors out there complain about not...
