Is your character a mary sue?

Agree. Other questions are also biased, such as those regarding FMC's royalty background and special power. The problem is, royalty background and special power are more like plot devices common in royal fantasy fiction. Labeling a character as a Marry Sue just because she - who is a royalty...

What's the smallest thing that could change your entire storyline?

Well, if my FMC hadn't pursued the last tyrant of the Rose kingdom in the ancient ruins, then the world wouldn't have experienced a historical amnesia apocalypse where the victims could move on after being forced to forget the history of brutal oppression. But if my FMC hadn't pursued the last...

Is your character a mary sue?

Kira (Yagami Light) is a god complex who judges the world as he pleases. My FMC only judges the systemic sinners (tyrants) and unable to kill innocent people

Is your character a mary sue?

Your Character is 34% Mary Sue! 34% You're doing great, but there might be a bit of Sue creeping into your writing. Keep up the good work, though, and remember your character development! My FMC is a judge of the world like Kira but she is more humane and not god complex.

You're right. I've also observed reviewer behavior. One camp gives five-star ratings with fabricated praise (fake ratings). Another camp uses ratings to denigrate other works. They're literally fighting over a slice of pizza on a dirty plate.

Okay, why are the ratings too small? I never advertise or swap reviews... so 3 ratings actually reflect 3 people who read and rated my fiction. 2 were satisfied and 1 was probably dissatisfied. It's a small amount of data, but it's valuable to me.

I only received 3 ratings after writing on RR for almost 9 months. Getting a low rating the first time feels uncomfortable, especially when the reviewer is silent.

I also just received a 2.5 rating on RR without any explanation. It really feels uncomfortable.

    Thank you, everyone!

Congrats. But you need 400 more readers to get the title of rising star author, dude.

Good or Mad? My plot idea.

It seems like just another fantasy drama with bloody violence. But that's just my opinion. I'm also a dark fantasy writer. So these scenes feel pretty ordinary.

How do you write an engaging main character that makes you want to read the rest of his story?

Characters are plots. By narrating a protagonist who is relatable to the reader's life, the plot and conflict will follow the protagonist's journey. If the protagonist is poor but caring for his sick sister, then the plot of finding a cure will be carried out organically. The author just adds...

How do you write an engaging main character that makes you want to read the rest of his story?

Dude... "excited" is too relative and general. An OP protagonist might excite readers who are bored with slow development. Conversely, a weak to strong protagonist might excite readers who like progression. Finally, you can't please everyone. Instead of worrying about how to please readers...

I still remember a new member asking for honest feedback in an open feedback thread. Funnily enough, he'd just received my honest feedback and not responded. I wondered what he meant by "honest feedback," perhaps he meant "please pay attention to me... praise my work." Lol

Writing How important are dialogue tags in your fiction?

I mentioned earlier in this thread the use of dialogue tags as a practical tool for character navigation in web novel chapters. We can't expect new readers to start reading from chapter 1 (even though I hope so). Without adequate character identity clues, dialogue tags, new readers will have a...

Writing How important are dialogue tags in your fiction?

Using of Dialogue Tags in Fiction In dialogue, tags are often used to briefly identify characters. Dialogue tags like "Barry said...", "...Annie said, patting Barry's shoulder," "...the blonde girl complained," etc, can provide quick navigation in identifying who is speaking while providing...

    Character feedback.

Well, I don't know what you're looking for in characterization feedback?! Are you trying to synchronize how your character design is perceived by readers? I don't know Aegis' character design. But from this chapter... I just see Aegis as a helpless, obedient teenage boy. He's weak, timid, and...

Mutual reviews for web novel authors

No one is wrong about seeking honest and constructive feedback. But seeking feedback through a mutually beneficial exchange is problematic... and actually keeps you from honest feedback. Why? Because you're turning feedback into a "transaction" that's simply about "profit." As a result, the...
