Thoughts on someone leaving harsh reviews on your novel?

I got a DNF review recently. They explained why they had to stop reading, and didn't just trash my story. I am honestly happy. May their review serve as a aignpost to other readers. Maybe they will like what they see. Maybe it will make them run away. In both cases, the reader's feelings and...

    Quotable Lines?

I am not working towards making quotable lines. I don't think there is anything close to one in my novel. I am curious about the idea, though.

How to drag the mc into the plot's major conflict?

In the Smallville RPG (yes, the one based on the Superman TV show), character creation includes a relationship chart. Everything—skills, events, other characters—is tied together by personal connections. You don’t just fight ninjas. You fight the Red Hand, the ninja clan Elektra came from...

    How does Envy attribute dialogue?

Right. There's a few reason why this works. It's stylistically better here. Alderman uses present tense narration. In literary fiction, especially in close third-person or stylized narration, it’s common to use “says” to create immediacy and rhythm. The idea here is that the dialogue...

    How does Envy attribute dialogue?

The question mark + ask is just a rule of English You don't say "Where is your car?" You ask. As for the exclamation point, you are correct. There is no need to use the shout/shouted dialogue tag. It's implied. For two people shouting, it's best to let the dialogue carry the speaker AND...

Should dialogue and action be split by a period or a comma?

As a random tangeant, but Shirtaloon's He Who Fights With Monsters audiobooks made me allergic to dialogue tags. The amount of ", Jason said." and ", Roofus said." back to back in the early books was driving me crazy. Because of this I often use action if I want to tell you who is replying...

Should dialogue and action be split by a period or a comma?

Usually if I use a dialogue tag, I will use a comma. If I don't, I use a period: Elyssia stepped forward. "What do you mean, you're out of mana?" Elyssia groaned and then said, "Please, no dad joke. Never again."

from 1k views a day to barely 20. is my story dead?

I am noticing a decrease in daily views a lot, compared to say, X-mas break. When did you release your story? I feel like March might be a low-activity month for reading? Taxes and all that.

What is the Hardest Genre to Write?

Surprisingly, I apparently write good romance? And I am ace with no relationship experience. Turns out write people doing people things is all it takes to be good at it.

Rank the living standards of your fictional universes.

Depends on the origin of the character. There is a metropolis of trade, where most citizens are afluent. Then there's two more relaxed, pastotal hub, where people in general are comfortable. People living in city deep inside the gloomy forest are pretty austere, but manage. Those living in the...

How would you survive in a generic Isekai against Protagonists?

I picked the protagonist-like talent. I feel with my gamer brain and smarts, if you add a hero's ability and capacity to grow, I would likely outclass by a wide margin. Because I can hyperfocus on repetitive grind and will likely grow far beyond what's needed go "beat the bad guy". After all, I...

I am curious to see how your critique would compare to grok's (or another AI of your choice) https://www.scribblehub.com/series/1360568/state-of-the-art/ I do wonder if I should suggest an alternative starting point? The first book in the series, State of the Art, is very slow paced and sets...

    Audible AI Narration

I use them to help me notice typos my eyes can't read anymore. Elevenlabs isn't terrible, but it's far from great, too. Still, for an indie person who wants to listen to my own book on walks as a way to find where to improve my writing? I find it a valuable tool.

Air vs. Water, Fire, and Earth – Air Wins for Me!

Hmm. I am not going to reallly argue the power level relative to each other. But if I had to pick one element for myself? I would probably take water. I just love swimming and hot baths.
