Okay. It's interesting. I'm getting excited. I read some popular fiction and was quickly disappointed because the narrative quality fell short of my expectations. The characters felt like chess pieces.

Then I read some niche fiction and discovered something unexpected: the narrative quality was quite good. The characters felt truly alive.

Today... I learned: reader validation makes your fiction more likely to be popular. However, author validation makes your fiction more likely to be worth reading. If a writer is chasing popularity, then do more market research, promotions and reader testimonials. If a writer is looking for narrative (artistic) quality, then learn from other (established) authors!

Good shock value should make the reader feel like, "D*mt it! He did that crazy thing?! I totally missed the hint in the first chapter."

Not like, "Why did he suddenly do this crazy thing?! There was no hint, he was always portrayed as kind."

Hmm... I just realized my writing style tends to be atmospheric, simbolic and emotional. That's why I find it difficult to write comedy scenes that are purely entertaining.

To anyone who claims to be asking for honest feedback, please be honest with yourself.

Don't say you're asking for feedback if you don't even appreciate the reviewer's time and thought for your work. Reviewers are human beings, too, and ignoring them as if they don't exist will only hurt them.
