This song is a through-composed masterpiece. It perfectly encapsulate what I feel defined the Y2K era of the band: alienation, psychosis, misanthropy, paranoia, Androids.

I can't even really talk about it because it speaks for itself.

It really is Bohemian Rhapsody for people who can't order a coffee by themselves.

I've been obsessed with Horse Race Tests music edits lately despite never watching the actual "series". I have no idea why.
The most common form of English you will see used by Indonesians on the internet, especially on Instagram, is AAVE.

It's bizarre. I suspect it's mostly a result of Indonesian gen Z being really into brainrot content and thus adopting a lot of the black slang associated with it. And also they think naked black men are just the pinnacle of comedy.

Someone needs to study this phenomenon.

Naked black men? Like in meme jomok?

Yes, I am referring to meme jomok :blob_unamused:

This is some revisionist bullshit. Both Indonesian men and women despised yuri.

Indonesian fujoshis didn't suffer persecution and great sacrifice in the 2000s just for the country to be labeled part of "yuri Asia". Sure, yuri has seen a rise in modern times because of vtubing, but let's not forget our historical roots here. This country was built on yaoi.

At this point, I'm grasping for songs to post. I've never listened to any other Peter Gabriel or Genesis song, but I like this one. Incredible nostalgia vibes, but maybe that has nothing to do with the song itself and more to do with the main guitar riff basically being the Rugrats theme in 7/4.

Even if I think they're kinda stuffy and sterile, I keep coming back to Steely Dan. They're not emotionally resonant enough to be a favorite, but they definitely know how to make a nice tune that sticks.

But the most interesting thing about the Dan is the contrast between their sophisticated sound and their lyrics about the absolute dregs of society.

And R.I.P Walter Becker. It felt disrespectful to talk about Steely Dan without mentioning him.

He played a mean guitar even among the 90 or so guitarists they'd hire for a single song, most of whom probably got the boot.
Indigenous cultures are super fascinating to learn about :blob_hmm:

Learning about Aboriginal creation myths and songlines right now. Riveting stuff.

Which in turn makes me think about how much culture and history has been lost to or destroyed by centuries of colonization :blob_pat_sad:

The thing that destroys just as much indigenous cultures and traditions as colonizations are modern people. By actively rewriting history. The prime example that happened recently to a not so small, and not so tribey country is Japan, and appropriation of Yasuke by French videogame company. The same thing happens everywhere all the time to every tribe, country, and so on.

I've always thought the Yasuke stuff was overblown and forced, but I also don't follow games discourse that deeply.

You brought up an interesting point though about the erasure of culture that still happens in the modern day and under different labels... though my examples would extend beyond games and into things that would 100% get me in trouble for talking about here

So I'll leave it here :blob_whistle:

Yasuke stuff wasn't overblown considering the hypocrisy around it, and the fact it wasn't just a single issue.
Outside I'm an alternative rock guy who will claim that Steely Dan is sterile jazz-flavored yacht rock for shitty dads,

But in truth, I bust it down sexual style whenever I hear Deacon Blues.
I saw a sparrow perching on a supermarket refrigerator once.

It felt like I was in a Radiohead song.

Went to an apartment viewing once, the redhead woman who was renting it was still asleep in the very messy bedroom, her face planted in the bed, her red hair like an explosion.

It was like a Florence and the Machine music video.

My favorite Zeppelin track on most days. Bonzo's downright legendary here, giving us both an iconic shuffle groove and a samba break that's just a hoot and a holler. Jimmy's sloppy fretwork kinda works here. Plant delivers a charming tale of a love almost lost because he was waiting on the wrong spot for his date. JPJ plays bass.
I am in love with Raora Panthera of Hololive English Justice.
Scallions honestly make life worth living, and I'm not sure if people today understand that enough. Put them on any soup-based food and it'll turn into a spiritual experience.
