Don’t worry; time has washed away more civilizations than “colonization.”

The fact that we know about those cultures and beliefs without being lost is, I’d say, already a counterpoint to not being lost but preserved for the future.

I'm glad for what has been preserved. Still, I think it's important to reflect on and mourn the loss of cultural identity and history that did come about that period. At least so it doesn't happen again, and so the remnants of what was lost could be rebuilt.

It's one thing for cultures to change and be lost over a long time. Occupation and the decimation of peoples and their histories is something else entirely.

I didn't think I'd have to say this, but

we can say child sacrifice and the decimation of indigenous populations and their cultures are both bad. Those aren't mutually exclusive sentiments.
