I have two characters I tried to do this with. Marvin is a funny asshole type that has creative insults and a little bit of the "my way or the highway" mentality. Braun is a douchebag frat boy type (not malicious) that gets in funny situations because he's a douchebag. You don't ever feel bad...

The sneaky Jay plot works and you did a good job of painting the MC as the nerdy gamer outcast. Some things to work on: 1. There's no hook at the beginning. I would start with the phone ringing. He wakes abruptly, Jump right into the conversation, grumbles at having to do chores before gaming...

The good: It's easy to follow and there's not a bunch of world-building crammed in the first chapter. The bad: There's absolutely no hook. The first two chapters are about a lazy student who likes to nap. As soon as he falls asleep for his second nap, I'm going to take a hint and fall asleep...

How do authors find beta readers that give valuable feedback? As an amateur author, I find I can get really ignorant to the holes in my own writing. I feel like beta readers would be very useful. Do authors just get popular enough that people volunteer?
