I only like OG yugioh.
Every other series/generation doesn't exist to me.
Fuck you.

Also, I played this game so much I swear my PS2 suffered an aneurysm.

Favorite yugioh game ever.

I love the Live Twins and Evil Twins cards, these cute little monsters are so annoying to fight once they get going.
They aren't a 1 turn 1 shot type of BS monster, they're used to actually enjoy the game..

I mean, who wouldn't want to get their butt kicked by two adorable women?
They're just so cool!

I couldn't follow GX's plot.

The Syncro bike race thing lost me once some aztec crap came in.

Completely skipped XYZ.

And Pendulum is just... weird. Like I'm staring at a less attractive Astolfo but more twink.

Who gets their butt kicked by these things? I don't think I've ever lost a duel to the twins cards, they're really easy to beat with a CXyz deck, you just spam absorb them with this guy and play number wall, or have an xyz reborn as backup. Though at least they're fun to play against, unlike fire kings and the one turn kills. If you're talking about the design though, that's fair. They are cool cards.

At a convention a few years ago (I think the year COVID hit our area but might have been a year before or two after), I was talking to a guy who spent a few years in Japan. He was there when the anime began and frequented the comic shop where Yu-Gi-Oh was created.
It was originally a one-shot story making fun of the people who took over the store for a few days every time a new batch of Pokemon cards came out.
When that book sold out, they wrote a second one parodying the role-playing gamers who took over the store once a week, as they also sold games and had an open gaming night.
They hadn't considered making it anything more than a few joke books until they found demand for a third issue existed...
And as they were working on the FOURTH, a company approached them about making the anime, but with a caveat that they had to have the actual game ready for release within a month of the first episode airing; they even offered to reprint the books with greater distribution as a perk.
At which point they replied: "Sure, but we really wish we'd even considered this... we would have handled some of the cards VERY differently from the start.."

The origin of Yu Gi Oh is very interesting when you think the card game and everything originated from a shonen jump manga, all from the mind of a single man drawing about a boy with an ancient paraoh inside his head playing multiple types of games but with an evil or demonic twist to it. Then he stuck with this card game because it was the most popular apparently, then they made the anime that only revolved around it, heavily modifying it while still adapting most of the major plot points. Most card games are just made like that, like card games, a group of people gather in a room and decide to make a card game, but Yu Gi Oh is very unique because a single guy did it all while not even intending to make it an actual, real card game at all. Then Bandai bought the rights for the IP and with it all the card game stuff. The Mangaka of Yu Gi oh was among the richest Mangaka in history before he died.

When using broken cards, or broken decks against ANY balanced set, of course they can be beat easily. but Yugioh has never cared about balance, or let alone what they throw out into the market. It's why like 70% of their cards are banned during tournaments.

I enjoy the twins because they're fun to play, I like their art, I think the abilities are enjoyable. when i have a friend who wants to PLAY, we can play a single match for a few minutes. Not just insta-win. My friends and I have my own stupid decks that can 1 turn endgame, but that's the lamest shit, at that point why even sit to play? That's boring. I dunno about anyone else here, but if i'm going to waste time playing a card game online, I'd rather have fun, instead of waiting 5minutes for lobbies to open up, & only be in game for 6 seconds....

According to the guy I knew who claimed to have spent time at the shop where the first comic originated (it was a stand-alone before invited to be included in Shonen Jump IIRC), there were three people involved in it - one who did the writing and art, and one who put it all together, and started developing rules for the card game when it looked like it would become a reality, and a third who mostly encouraged them but also did the full color work on the art after the first guy drew it. And it was meant as a parody, not a serious book, initially.

Well, obviously. But CXyz is actually pretty average, definitely not competitive. They are annoying, but the twins are just kinda gimmicky, they're basically the equivalent to a competitive structure deck. Not bad, but not especially viable for much other than learning the higher level mechanics of the game. They've always just felt like a way to introduce new players to the BS that starts happening once you can make your own deck that relies on spamming the summons. I'm sure they're fun if you've got another deck around the same level, but I've always just found them more tedious than anything. As for the broken card thing, decks usually work one of two ways. One, they have a bunch of small effects that shut your opponent down, or two, they have one really strong ace monster and support cards that make it really hard to overcome. The twins definitely fall into the first one, not saying that's bad, my deck fell into the latter, and while it's usually a decent match, twins usually struggle to overcome "boss monsters".

Like i said. Wanting to play, and enjoy the game.
"Gimmicks" like you called them, are to have fun with.
The point of playing is to have fun.

The moment any competition come around why would you use anything but your stronger decks?

It's really just a personal reason I dislike them, anyway. I don't fully get it myself, but if I had to duel the twins or anything else, from meta, one turn kills, to structure decks, I'd rather play anything else. They always felt like they were made to be meta, but just weren't good enough. That's mostly what annoys me, they're built like most of the competitive decks, but utterly useless against any of them, so it's always hard for me not to compare them to higher level decks. I love playing the game for fun, but those specific cards will always bug me, like they're at a weird in between for fun decks and competitive ones.

And as for the bringing your strongest deck to competitive... I literally decided to try following the anime logic and threw a bunch of cards that barely have anything to do with each other together and did surprisingly well in some competitive online matches. I guess Yugi was onto something.

You keep mentioning being competitive. even in your other posts.

that's the difference between you and me. you say you play for fun, but apparently its only fun of you're winning.
How many times have you skipped a turn without doing anything, knowing you might not get a next turn if you didn't act?
How many time have you thrown a match just because you wanted to play longer?

I do it all the time. I don't play to win. I play to play.
There are kids who've thanked me for not stomping them into the ground while they only have the starter deck.
Or older folk who are just like me and want to enjoy the game while they tell me their life story unprompted.
I don't care if I win. I'd rather lose, knowing i enjoyed a match, than beat someone outright and end up playing against other people who just want to win as fast as possible.

You're talking to a man who tried to make a legitimate Kuriboh deck, and played for three hours straight to see if it was even remotely possible to win. The answer was yes, but it's gotta be the worst deck I've ever made. Also I don't think the term boss monster can be considered exclusively competitive, since it could be something as simple as a blue eyes.
