I'm really sad it happened. Although I didn't look after the game closely, I had it in the back of my mind. A new first\third person RPG with good budget and not another hackneyed isometric RPG? It was interesting. Add to it the fact it was fantasy and not like their previous work The Outer Worlds. Yeah, Obsidian did a lot of good games, and I'm sad it happened to them. I had a small hope that maybe with Microsoft's money they will turn into a direction of eventually becoming a competitor to TES series. Let's be frank here, TES series has been shit since Morrowind so competiton might force Todd to do SOMETHING, alas, Obsidian turned into shit.

Rest in pepperoni. ??

The fact that the head designer went on a public tirade was enough to make me not want to touch it with a ten-foot pole. :blob_neutral: Also, watching gameplay videos while hearing about the whole ordeal made me question if it would be fun enough because what I saw looked rough, even for a beta.

I can't speak about the plot or characters since I haven't seen much. From what I did see, the concept is pretty good, yet nothing I watched, neither trailers nor gameplay, looked particularly good or interesting. It was all pretty rough, and the combat felt static and uncomfortable to me.

Before I learned the game is woke I saw a video with a guy playing the game. It was a small YT channel that doesn't talk about politics at all. Dude plays various RPGs, that's it. Granted the dude is an asskisser and praised even bad RPGs, he said something I thought was logical. That the gameplay is from an older version of the game. Now I think the release version will be as bad as what most youtubers showed us. Obsidian probably spent more time on including woke agenda isntead of making a good game.

Having a game's narrative be woke isn't a bad thing. Some characters make sense because of their backstory.

Taking a game that is more about pushing a political agenda than being a game is a bad thing. If a game isn't about being fun as priority #1 then it is a bad thing.

Obsidian are good storytellers. They had good writing, so I expected a mediocre gameplay with good story, characters, and dialogues. And if the game would become a success they could've done another one, with better gameplay. Now I'm not sure writing is good.

I only played Pillar of Eternity 2 (2018) and it was already woke crap, but it still had good gameplay.

I abhor Serafen, the little midget gay furry, with all of my soul. That little shit had the double standards of a twitter schizo, acting like he's a paragon of justice who deserves respect while he's a fucking pirate who loots and kill people (Or maybe traders aren't people because they're rich). The fact that the best hat was locked behind his personal questline almost made me quit on the spot. It consisted in listening to him whining about his past as a victim bully, and it sure made me want to bully him too.

Tekehu, the gay fish, annoyed some players, but I found him bearable. I think people didn't like the fact that his kit was OP (making druid class redundant) and the story showed quite a lot of favoritism towards him (gary stu, son of Ondra - goddess of oceans).

Well, when you see that Edér's questline was just about him getting NTR'ed with no punchline, I can imagine players raising eyebrows.

My favorite waifus were the drunken midget furry Mirke and the vampire nerd Ydwin. Both aren't main characters but optional sidekicks.

Maia Rua taught me why I shouldn't take the equivalent of a CIA sniper on my boat while I travel from island to island to meet local people.

The experience I got from the story ending was kind of a bitter but honestly it was a memorable experience and dragging people you hate and who hate each others on a journey to save the world was kind of funny in hindsight.

What I had serious issues with:

  • Animations
    • they looked like something you buy from an asset store to fill in until your own animations are ready
  • Facial animations
    • Mass Effect Andromeda style: MY FACE IS TIRED. Looked horrible.
  • The combat system
    • Floaty, MMO-like meh. I expect more in 2024. I know they were touted as the Skyrim-killer, but they are copying, not killing. Which is not good, especially since Skyrim came out in 2011.
  • The lighting was bad.
  • AI.
    • Or the lack there of. All of the enemies were doing the same thing and just bumrushing the characters. Companions? Same. It was jarring to see how bad the characters were acting, paired up with the sub-par animations.
These are just what I remember noticing. They/Them and the art designer's blatant racism towards whites on social media is the least of their concerns. The game looked ass. And the kind of ass that won't be polished and groped enough to look juicy by the time it is release time.

I will simply copy my reply to LilRora.

Were.

Those who were are no longer working there. The name is there, but the pedigree is not. Proof: That other sci-fi slop RPG they made. Outer Worlds or whatever.
Hey, I heard it is good though? Tim Cain helped them and so on. I didn't play it myself, nor do I want to, so if you say it is shit so be it.

what is woke and what is avoud
woke is when women aren't submissive slaves of men, and when there's people with different colors of skin (other than white) and have different sexuality and is therefore very EVIL because it goes against God Almighty and his Ancient Book of "How To Make A Species of Sentient Beings and Torture them For Eternity".

I wonder when it will reach a point where these out-of-touch companies lose enough money that they stop hiring DEI consultants. People, in general, are too busy to care about certain ideologies being pushed in a video game when often they have nothing to do with the game itself. Or they'll still hire them because the billionaires and politicians behind these agendas want it. I'm not sure.

Surface-level RPG. And boring. It was a shallow experience. Technically, it was put together okay, but from an RPG standpoint? I don't think it has what it needs to be a good RPG. There is very little to the game itself, most quests are boring, no diversity in weapons or character specing if you really get into it. Looting gets boring because you just loot junk, running to sell that shit when your inventory gets filled with worthless stuff.

Once the humor-filled dialogues are out of the way and it's time for a story, it's just... super mid. And not really giving the feeling of oh, I will need a new playthrough to see what happens if I do this, this and this. The companions are well written but they still come short to fully get into their stories, but that is probably just me, because there were no romance options.

It was a better RPG than Fallout 4, because of skill checks in dialogue and whatnot, but eh, that's all.

RPGs are my favorite games and my favorite genre. Outer Worlds didn't tickle me.

I think I dislike it, because I expected it to hold me down for a long, long time, with multiple playthroughs. It did not, not even for a second playthrough. Especially because I felt that the choices you make in the game is... not always something that makes sense or what I would want to do.

Is it a bad game? Nah. But it is also not a good one. Just mid.
