"50% corruption is the limit for me that or anything above it should result in immediate execution. We have spoken on Gods before I believe I will not repeat myself on that matter. Good day." I leave still absolutely livid at the man.
Now, if I knew what 50% meant.

QUEST REPORT: Appraised

This quest is chosen more on logic than on personal preference. In order to increase my renown and strength, I can not stay in Scribel forever - and at the moment, the best choice to go to after Scribel seems to be Genderholm. As the city essentially is a warzone, having some practice with military training would only support my efforts there, and this quest also is a prerequisite for taking the caravan escort quests with which not even the time spent traveling would go to waste. And if I can also impress Scribel's city guard in the process, that would be the optimal result.

With that in mind, I report for duty at the city barracks. The applicants today are quite a colorful bunch, with members of various races and professions waiting to be assigned to their teams. 7 minutes and 41 seconds after waiting, we finally get assigned to our teams. My direct partner is a very normal looking human, while the other pair is a dandy and an elven archer.

I take the initiative to introduce myself. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Exal, an adventurer. My specialties are my superior calculative skills as well as my transmutation magic. In addition, it is very hard to kill me."

The next one that introduces himself is the dandy. He flicks his hair behind his head before starting: "My name is Mitsuru, and I am a swordsman. Leave any of the close-quarter combat to me."

After that, the human follows suit. "Ah, call me Angelo. I'm, uh, I guess a mage of sorts. I can summon a being to help me with stuff."

Well, that was a lackluster introduction, but it was an introduction. We all turn to the elf that has yet to introduce herself.

"And what, fair lady, is your name?" The dandy asks her. Indeed, a dandy through and through.

"Ealirel Enris, Archer." Comes the brisk response.

We stand there, awkwardly, while Angelo mumbles something to himself. I can faintly hear the words "tank", "DPS", and "support" from him. Well, with how well we are already communicating with one another, I guess I'll take this opportunity to learn for my next attempt at the quest.

After a quick introduction to the training regime, I note that interestingly enough, the training focusses less on combat and more on coordination with others, teamwork, and discipline. This means that the final exam most likely also is addressed to this. As I glance at my teammates, I sigh to myself. The Mitsuru is still trying to talk to Ealirel, without any real success. Meanwhile, Angelo is still mumbling to himself. Great.

Once the introduction is over, we are shown to the barracks where we will live for the duration of the training. Before our groups separate, I quickly tell the rest of the team the things to take note of here, as I am certain they didn't actually hear them during the speech. After a grateful nod, we separate, me and Angelo entering the room assigned to us while Mitsuru and Ealirel enter their own rooms.

As we enter the room, Angelo turns to me. "Exal, I know that we must seem weird to you, but we all want to pass the exam. I'm sure that we'll be able to work together properly within a few days!"

"I sure hope so," comes my skeptical comment before I enter my bed and lower my energy consumption to the minimum.

At exactly 1 AM, I hear Angelo get up from his bed and sneak out of the room. Rather curious at this unusual activity I stealthily get up from my bed as well and creep after him. Angelo, once outside, takes a look around to make sure he is alone before starting to chant something. I slowly get closer, only to discover that whatever he is chanting sounds like utterly incomprehensible gibberish to me. While I stand there, confused, Angelo seems to notice me.

He jumps up and stammers: "I-I can explain!"

"Please do, I'm quite curious."

"Well, the being that I can summon, it... it doesn't help me for free. It demands that I chant its prayers as payment, and every time I summon it, I have to negotiate until we both agree."

I am shocked. As I stare at him, I can't help but accuse him: "Have you two never thought of establishing a fixed system with certain degrees of help requiring certain amounts of prayer?"

"What? I, uhm..."

"In a way, the negotiations are a waste of both your and the being's time, and I can't help but worry about you being unable to help the rest of the group due to being busy negotiating."

"You... have a point...?"

"Great. I'll see you tomorrow then." With that said I return to the bed and resume my rest.

...

The next day, I give Ealirel and Mitsuru a quick rundown of the general situation of Angelo. They are confused, frightened, but I assure them that Angelo is working on a failsafe method of communicating with the being. I see even more confusion, but what am I to expect from such imperfect minds?

The days pass one after another and our cooperation, to my surprise, actually improves. Ealirel opens up to use, Angelo manages to clearly state his opinion, and Mitsuru can actually be serious. I am astounded and relieved, as succeeding the exam now actually seems possible.

Finally, the day of the exam arrives. After receiving our equipment for the exam, our team is led into a wide, open space - similar to an arena. Once inside, we hear an announcement.

"You will now face a bear. We trust that you are able to handle it, but should anyone be in mortal danger, the exam will be interrupted and counted as failed. Begin!"

A gate on the other side of the arena opens and with a roar, a bear comes charging out of it. I transmute my tools into a spear and move to intercept the bear, drawing its attention together with Mitsuru who follows behind be. My goal is to mainly draw the bear towards attacking me, while Mitsuru is supposed to try to cripple it. Meanwhile, Ealirel supports Mitsuru while protecting Angelo. In this battle, we simply lack the destructive power to deal with the bear, so the hopes rest of Angelo, who is madly chanting.

Time passes but we play it safe, slowly inflicting more and more shallow wounds on the bear until Angelo shouts loudly. This is the sign. Mitsuru and I stab our weapons into the bear at once while tentacles manifest from a dark mist, binding the bear. Ealirel shoots a flurry of arrows at the bear while Mitsuru and I blind the bear and quickly cut through various of its muscles, sinews, and arteries. After 10 seconds we retreat, the tentacles disperse back into black mist, and the bear slowly bleeds to death, incapable of moving anymore.

"You've improved a lot since you arrived here," comments the announcer before continuing: "And I think you did well. Good job."

With the exam over I bid my farewell to my teammates and proceed to the guild to hand in my report.
That poor bear...
I fear the bears in the nearby region will go extinct at this rate...

*secretly saves Mitsuru's pic*

"If that is your choice, very well. Good day."

Then Exal mumbles to itself: "Now, if I knew 50% of what, it would be quite helpful - I suppose I will have to inspect conversation logs as well as quest reports and see if I can find an answer. But she is surprisingly stubborn and emotional."
*points out that AEIO is 15 and, although she's had training, she's still an adolescent child*
'-'

Then again, I vaguely recall something about her body being grown up quickly through the training?
*can't remember*

Yeah her body growth was accelerated and she has been exposed to a lot of knowledge and experiences via hypno-indoctrination and such but overall she has not had any emotional suppression applied as that is what separates her to the machines of the tech priests and the cold disinterest of the Alpha legionnaires!

Ahhhh!
So she still has the emotional rollercoaster of a teenage girl going through puberty, then?
Interesting.

Parts maybe since the physical changes aren't there the hormone imbalance caused by that part should be done. Haven't thought to far on the mental side really.
Oh, I see.
Well, maybe with what happened to her body when she arrived in Tonia it could have affected her brain which could lead to her emotional and hormonal parts reverting to her actual age?
|.o)

Just an idea that you don't have to consider at all.
*thinks about it*
Yeah...don't consider that, it sounds stupid...

Oh ho, so you want to make contact with a secret agent do you, well-
Quickly messages @GM on how she is supposed to respond to this quest lmao
Felicia is a secret agent lol Well I guess technically all of my characters are? Since I have some super-duper ultra secret knowledge.
Made a secret agent NPC! Though it wasn't going to be to do with the guild.
No uh, I'm pretty sure the only secret agents right now(confirmed by GM) are GM, Konoha and Felicia. You can't just make one up I don't think, because you don't know what we know? If that makes sense? :blob_happy: :blob_happy:
Wait for @GM or @ohko to get back to you/us!
You can absolutely make a secret agent NPC if it has nothing to do with the guild. In-character, @GM has a circle of secret agents, but they're certainly not the only organization of secret agents lurking around. There can definitely be other groups of secret agents / spies.

Regarding secret agents:
  • There's a Level 5 Scribel City quest you can take if you want your character to be one of @GM's secret agents.
  • There is an unknown number of guild secret agents.
  • @GM's secret agents generally serve the purposes of the guild. As well as other things.
  • Nobody knows what the objectives of @GM's secret agents are.
  • Even @GM's secret agents don't know the identity or objectives of other agents.
  • Most of @GM's secret agents have unique orders. Agents are not aware of other agents' orders.

Now the only thing missing is agents not knowing that they are agents, shapeshifters, memory theft, backstabbing, and everything will be excellent.

Yeah already made the secret agent that has nothing to do with the guild.
Going to take the level 5 quest in 2 levels it will probably be my second at that level.
Though I doubt AIEO will be as loyal an agent as most she's just being the manipulative woman she was developed to be~

That's fine! The structure is designed for flexibility. :blob_evil::blob_evil::blob_evil:
