Hypothetical scenario: You're playing chess with a good friend. You've beaten and are beating him now, but he really hates to lose, so would you either lose purposefully to make him happy or win and get challenged endlessly? I want to hear your thoughts on this.

In this situation if said friend ever found out you lost on purpose they'd most likely be angry with you so just win another round and then say you're bored with the game.

Hypothetical...
Doubt.
And I would not lose to him on purpose. If he kept pushing me, I would probably lash out at some point if he kept pushing me endlessly.

My win condition had always been and forever will be, turn all pawns into queens knights and then force a stalemate, making the game the plot of cliche anime trope

I don't care what my opponents wants. And my "good" friend would know this already.

They want to checkmate? Let them try. I have loftier goals. And me "winning" is no difference to a lost to me, we have different goal posts.

Beat them, I never learned how to lose on purpose. Maybe start setting up handicaps if I start getting annoyed. Or push it into punishment gane status, where they have to remove clothes if they lose.

I and my best friend play Age of Empire 2 against each other every week. He's an excellent player and used to beat me all the time until I improved to his level. Now the win ratio is split 50/50 and each match is more challenging than the previous one.

I don't want to play with him if I keep on beating him.

Hopefully, that would set off his Training Arc, and return to beat me in the end.

Easy, destroy him at chess with my unorthodox methods. My friends know me as a stubborn fucker, it's a game of who give up first, and I can fight all day long.

It would be morally right to just beat him seriously as to not mock him.

But as a lazy and timid person, I would prefer balancing the game between winning-losing-winning-losing type scenario. This would force him to be bored and you can get your own rest a win-win situation
