If I don't mind always winning and it's still fun, I keep playing. If I want to make it more challenging, I'll put myself down pieces at the start of the game, if he's game for that.

If, one way or another, chess gets boring or annoying, I simply stop playing with him temporarily or permanently, depending on the situation. I don't want to ruin our friendship over chess, and if I try to make him happy in ways that make me actually unhappy, be that by playing when I don't want to, or faking losses, it probably won't end well.

Some people can still be fun to be around when they're being competitive-- other people, less so.

Hypothetical scenario: You're playing chess with a good friend. You've beaten and are beating him now, but he really hates to lose, so would you either lose purposefully to make him happy or win and get challenged endlessly? I want to hear your thoughts on this.
It's just a game. A good friend won't be a bitch about losing. Or bitch a bit and move on quickly enough.

But considering my abysmal skills at chess he's probably being nice to me and losing on purpose anyway. Or he's worse than me but then why are we playing it?

Ideally, i would like to do all the good and proper way to deal with those kind of people.

Realistically, i will definitely one of those too-soft-easily-used person who will just gives up and lose on purpose since I'm just tired.

Or i will just get tilted and angrily scolding yelled at the person to stop doing this shit, and then he takes it wrongly resulting in our broken relationship.

Before ended up regretting it and Unnecessarily blame myself before spending some time to recover and move on by blaming the circumstances and wrong choice.

Sound shitty, weak, and improper ?
Sure, but these on the spur judgement and decision making isn't easy when you're tired after getting constant annoying challenges.

A good way to show how strong your character were, but it's kinda shit when those ting we're expected of a main character after everyone does them.

Utterly destroy them until halfway, then play with them like a cat plays with their prey only to get checkmated by making a goofy mistake.

For all the jokes,

Humans are remarkably average when it comes to play. Any sort of animal that participates in "play" will, typically. Have a same sex relationship where the younger animal wishes to play, and the older one kicks his ass, but will throw the "game" 20% to 30% of the time to encourage the younger one to keep trying.

If you just crush the more inexperienced player, very quickly they just give up and won't play with you. Yes. There are misanthrope who want to be left alone. Well, have fun by yourself, I guess. But if you have a hobby, if you don't make it enjoyable for new people to learn your hobby, it will die.
