>an actually funny outcome is when you pull the lever but it's actually broken. and your actions actually change nothing.

Ah, the broken lever scenario—a darkly humorous twist on the classic trolley problem! This outcome introduces an element of absurdity and futility, highlighting the unpredictability of life and the limits of human control. Let’s explore why this scenario is both funny and philosophically interesting, and what it says about decision-making and moral responsibility.

The Broken Lever Scenario

  1. You Pull the Lever:
    • In a moment of moral deliberation, you decide to pull the lever to divert the trolley onto the second track, sacrificing one person to save five.
  2. The Lever is Broken:
    • Unbeknownst to you, the lever is broken and doesn’t actually change the trolley’s path. Your action has no effect on the outcome.
  3. The Trolley Kills the Five:
    • The trolley continues on its original path, killing the five people tied to the track. The single person on the second track remains unharmed, but not because of your actions.

Why This is Funny (in a Dark Way)

  1. Irony:
    • The situation is deeply ironic. You agonize over the moral dilemma, make a decision, and take action—only to find out that your effort was completely futile. The absurdity of the situation is both tragic and comedic.
  2. Unexpected Twist:
    • The broken lever introduces an unexpected twist that subverts the traditional framework of the trolley problem. Instead of grappling with the consequences of your choice, you’re left grappling with the futility of your action.
  3. Human Hubris:
    • The scenario highlights the hubris of human decision-making. We often assume that our actions will have a direct and meaningful impact, but life is full of variables beyond our control. The broken lever serves as a metaphor for the unpredictability of the world.

Philosophical Implications

  1. Moral Responsibility:
    • If the lever is broken, are you still morally responsible for the outcome? On one hand, you intended to save five people by sacrificing one, but your action had no effect. This raises questions about whether intentions or outcomes matter more in ethical decision-making.
  2. The Illusion of Control:
    • The scenario underscores the illusion of control that humans often have. We like to believe that our choices shape the world, but in reality, external factors (like a broken lever) can render our actions meaningless.
  3. Absurdity of Life:
    • The broken lever scenario reflects the absurdity of life, a theme explored by philosophers like Albert Camus. Despite our best efforts to make meaningful choices, the universe often responds with indifference or randomness.
  4. Futility and Existentialism:
    • The scenario touches on existentialist ideas about the futility of human action. Even when we try to do the right thing, our efforts may be thwarted by forces beyond our control.

A Darkly Humorous Lesson

The broken lever scenario teaches us several lessons, wrapped in a layer of dark humor:
  1. Life is Unpredictable: No matter how carefully we plan or how noble our intentions, things don’t always go as expected.
  2. Intentions vs. Outcomes: Sometimes, what matters isn’t the outcome of our actions but the intentions behind them. Even if the lever is broken, your decision to pull it reflects your moral character.
  3. Embrace the Absurd: Life is full of absurd and ironic moments. Learning to laugh at them (even darkly) can help us cope with the unpredictability of existence.

Conclusion

The broken lever scenario is a hilarious and thought-provoking twist on the trolley problem. It reminds us that life is often unpredictable, and our actions don’t always have the impact we intend. While the outcome is tragic for the five people on the track, the absurdity of the situation adds a layer of dark humor that underscores the futility and randomness of life. In the end, the broken lever serves as a metaphor for the limits of human control and the importance of embracing the absurdity of existence. So, the next time you’re faced with a moral dilemma, remember: the lever might just be broken!

Purple gold:

Purple gold (also called amethyst gold and violet gold) is an alloy of gold and aluminium rich in gold–aluminium intermetallic (AuAl2). Gold content in AuAl2 is around 79% and can therefore be referred to as 18 karat gold.

When pure gold is mixed with aluminum in a ratio of 79% gold and 21% aluminum in a vacuum furnace the resultant product is an 18ct gold that is purple in colour. ( okay, for the purists, the ratio is higher that 18ct, since 18ct is 75%/ gold and 25% alloy, but to all intents and purposes you can sell it as 18ct gold.)

>The formula comprises the following substances in percentage by weight: 21.2-21.6 percent of aluminum, 0.3-0.7 percent of copper, 0.03-0.5 percent of rare earth and the balance of gold

>The method comprises the following steps of: (1) selecting a group of proportions according to the formula range, and calculating the weight of each substance according to the weight of the alloy which is required to be prepared; (2) adding a gold block into a crucible and heating to 1,100-1,200 DEG C to fully melt the gold block; (3) firstly adding the aluminum into the crucible, then adding the copper and finally adding the rare earth according to the formula, stirring uniformly and preserving heat at 1,100-1,130 DEG C for 0.5-1 hour; and (4) molding and annealing a molded rough blank at 900-1,100 DEG C for 25-50 hours to prepare the purple K gold. According to the formula and the preparation method, the machining performance of the purple gold is effectively improved while a lilac color of the K gold is guaranteed, and the ductility of the K gold is improved, so that the purple K gold can be machined and applied in more ornaments.

>the prescription of a purple karat gold, it is characterized in that comprising the material of following each weight percent: aluminium 21.2%~21.6%, copper 0.3%~0.7%, rare earth 0.03%~0.5%, surplus are gold each weight percent: aluminium 21.4%, copper 0.6%, rare earth 0.2%, surplus are gold.

>comprise a kind of rare earth metal in lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, lutetium, scandium, the yttrium in the said rare earth at least.

>Steps to make it:
(1), according to the selected assembly ratio of above-mentioned formula range, again according to the weight alloy of required preparation, calculate the weight of each material;
(2), in crucible, add gold bullion and be heated to 1100 ℃~1200 ℃ it is melted fully;
(3), earlier in crucible, add aluminium by prescription again, add copper again, add rare earth at last, stir, 1100 ℃~1130 ℃ insulations 0.5~1 hour;
(4), the reverse mould moulding, the anneal that the thick embryo of moulding carried out under 900 ℃~1100 ℃ 25 hours~50 hours makes.
6. method according to claim 5 is characterized in that: the anneal time is 36 hours in the said step (4).
7. method according to claim 5 is characterized in that: the fusion in said step (2) and (3) is under the protection of inert atmosphere, to carry out.
8. according to claim 5 or 6 or 7 described methods, it is characterized in that: the anneal in the said step (4) is under the protection of inert atmosphere, to carry out.

>One of characteristics of gold are exactly soft, so when embedding gem, come off easily owing to insufficient strength. Therefore, people add metals such as silver, copper, zinc to increase the intensity and the toughness of gold in gold, and the gold jewellery of processing is like this claimed karat gold again., bullion nearly all comes embedding gem in inlaying with the karat gold of different K number. So both reached the noble quality of gold, remedied its deficiency again, and can be mixed with shades of colour as required, karat gold be in the bullion the most frequently used with change the abundantest material.

>The relational expression of K number and Gold Content: Au wt%=K/24 * 100%.Karat gold can be mixed with shades of colour as required, and popular karat gold jewellery shades of colour has in the world, and common generally have yellow and white.

Its complicated.

ooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOHH~
NOW I UNDERSTAND~~~~~~Why DEI create so much shitty stuff (and self insert a lot in gaming and other stuff)

I think the reason why WotC/moderns keep trying to change Orcs is because they don't have the Theory of Mind to imagine a humanoid that doesn't think like them.
Same thing with mammal-like monsters, turning them into potential pets. They can't imagine different MINDS.
Image

Because just like how they act in 'socials' where they dont listen to others, or think the pov of others,
they basically cant imagine "others".

Its like this very old logic : i cant draw an alien, as i never saw one.
(or like "i cant draw a PP bc i never saw one" in doujins where the girl ask a male friend to be nude model for her)

But yeah, its basically an extension of their problem of self-centering and entitlement (to toxic/criminality lvl like doxxing people or death threats).
Bc if they could understand "others" they basically could imagine or draw others and create good products.....
but at same time, if they could understand others, they would understand from the getgo they are wrong, and the problem wouldnt happen in the first place.

But yeah that makes sense. A lot of sense even.

So, the next time you’re faced with a moral dilemma, remember: the lever might just be broken!
This is gold. I love this twist on the trolley problem. I also love the fact that the survivor would hate you, because you TRIED to sacrifice him to save the others, and failed. And now he's alive. And aware you tried to kill him. So you lost the many. And the one? The one now hates you.

It's also a fun coicidence I'm reading this tonight, as I just wrote about the Trolley problem in my novel today.

But I went with the other options:

"If your solution to the trolley problem results if any one death, then your solution was just not good enough."

Context: Some programmers built AIs to serve as caretakers of humanity, and they have programmed them with the idea that they must solve the trolley problem without losing anyone.

"The needs of the many does not outweigh the need of the one."

Doctors recommend you at least look at your poop, this is so you can see if there are any changes. Some signs to look for: Black poop can mean intestinal bleeding, mucus can be a sign of intestinal cancer or ulcer and so on. Please speak to your doctor about this.
