For almost all pop songs, I enjoy the first 5 or 10 seconds only. Then the drums start. Drums hurt my ears, and most music is filled with drums. It's the sonic equivalent of being punched in the face. Just use bells for your percussion!

I unironically liked Justin Bieber... just one song. Either that or because the dudes in class liked it and after they blasted it on repeat for an hour or so, my stockholm came in.

The song is "As long as you love me"

I really miss the 2000s era of grunge and nu-metal.

I dunno if those music have fans here, but I honestly loved Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Sick Puppies, Skillet, and the like.

They just don't do music like that anymore.

Skillet is still around their sound has definitely changed over the years but they're still good I don't know about the others though I haven't actively looked for anything from them in years and as weird as it may sound if you liked that sound of music I'd suggest looking into modern Christian rock and metal and everything in-between as it in my opinion has a similar sound and alot of their songs aren't preachy or anything it's genuinely just good music

Most rap isn't music. At best one can pass it off as poetry, but not music.

Opera and Musicals suck.

Most modern movie background music has been outright terrible. It feels like the people in charge of the audio are either deaf or pissed off the video guys and trying to ruin scenes.

Same. I haven't actively looked for anything from them these past years, but I grew up with their songs when I was in high school. That's around the era of Comatose, Rebirthing, Monster, Awake and Alive, those songs.

I'm not sure, but I think those things were released near each other.

If I remember correctly comatose and rebirthing were the album just before monster and awake and alive I think I still have my CDs in a box somewhere

Oh I got a controversial opinion!
People such as xxxtentacion and Juice WRLD have their musical talent blown out of proportion, because of their death
ICP (Insane Clown Posse) and horrorcore in general is also highly underrated and misunderstood by the rap and music community as violent joker wannabes. I see horrorcore as a way for the artist and the listeners to vent all their frustration.

As a side note I feel like metal and some forms of rock allow you to vent as well. I have never meet a violent Juggalo or Metalhead, ironically the most violent people I have met listen to country or pop music.

I'd say most metalheads are more naturally intimidating then actually violent infact they can be some of the nicest people in the world once you get to know them I don't know what a juggalo even is and I may be biased as I listen to a lot of country myself and it's what most of the people in my area listen too as well but I'd say they're more wild and unruly then violent people they just like to have a good time and will welcome anybody and everybody to join in now people who listen to pop however tend to be in my experience very angry and hateful and quick to take more aggressive stances then others

A Juggalo is a fan of ICP and horrorcore, some of them wear ICP merch, drink Faygo, and wear Juggalo face paint to concerts.

I am not saying all people that listen to country or pop are bad just a lot of people that listen to country or pop where I come from tend to be wannabe gangsters (Pop and Pop Rap) or wannabe tough guys (Country, usually Pop Country) or an ungodly amalgamation of both.

Blame tik tok and it’s predecessors. There’s only about one or two western artists(mainstream) who have some pretty good songs these days. It’s pretty depressing when you can count them on one hand.
Pretty sure it goes even further than back, like back to the hippies.
I remember it like it was only yesterday when I was still 12 years old and lost all faith in humanity. If only social media was never created, maybe we could have avoided the birth of a world filled with nothing but degenerates. Seriously, social media was humanity’s greatest mistake.
Pretty sure today’s degeneracy would still exist, just a lot weaker, in that scenario
Step past your prejudices and look into the wonderful world of metal
I’ve never heard metal music before. Literally
Not every piece just the mainstream ones most of the music I listen to is the opposite of what you claim
True, often time there’s a dude that raps his faith and a number of wholesome stuff that breaks into the lists.
I'm more of a folk/non traditional music guy. With the occasional foray into dark cabaret. There is much more variety out there that many people hardly bother to look for. I think some of my best experiences in music were things I stumbled across by accident. I think being eclectic is key, with a willingness to move across genres to find something that moves or entertains you.
*Edit* just to say something a bit more in the unpopular opinion category. A lot of music, but more specifically pop music today, represents more of a beauty contest than actual artistry. The music business has always been image conscious, but with increasing progressions in technology it has become easier for talentless beautiful people to hop on a computer and pump out bad music. Making it harder for the more homely musician who actually cares about their art to make a large impact. The market is too flooded with pretty fakes with no substance where image supercedes the art.
They literally just boost the audio as loud as possible, distrusting the beautiful background tones. And like 2 dudes or something make the music beats

Oh, I think I have some.
Orchestral music in games, while not awful, is terribly overrated. I tend to see this among the weeb/JRPG crowd (could be wrong tho). Slap some pure orchestra for the final battle theme and suddenly the fans would be like "OMFG BEST SONG EVARRR 11/10" while I was left wondering why the final boss BGM doesn't get me fired up at all.
On another note, never get the hype of Pokemon battle themes as well (then again, my go-to VGmusic is usually Gust/Falcom/Ishiwatari/Meguro)

dubstep is nice. it's understandable why people don't like them, but i like them. less for them, more for me.

post rock is my favourite form of rock, followed by garage rock.

the underground rap scene is one of the most progressive genres right now.

game soundtracks are miles ahead of movie soundtracks. even the licensed soundtracks are better.

hans zimmer is an okay composer.

people think modern western music is all about degeneracy when in fact, more than half of them merely scratch the surface of radio pop and billboard top 100s and then consider themselves experts on the subject.

there can never be another orchestral composition made that'll rival the likes of old, classical music pieces. i don't have a reason for this; they simply do not make them like how they used to be anymore.

music production is just as if not more important than songwriting.

the Russians are really fucking good at atmospheric synth pop for some reason.

the Chinese are really fucking good at jazz for some reason.

jpop is the best form of pop at the moment. nothing even comes close to their sounds and productions. not even their distant cousin kpop, which is also doing well at the moment. western pop is a dead horse being dragged across boiling concrete itching to reach for its Ed Sheeran glory days back in 2015.

ps. remind me to never listen to music with you guys.

I am surprised I almost agreed with everything said here, the thing I can't comment on is probably the Chinese jazz thing I have to check that out later.

The only thing I really don't agree with is the orchestral composition one, there are bound to be some guys that will eventually rival the Mozart's, Bach's, and Beethoven's of the world.

You have pretty good taste in music, in my personal opinion of course.

Metal fans are the most toxic elitist community I have met. Even more than kpop stans

Kpop ain't all that bad. and actually kind of bops

MoDeRn MuSiC iS AlL TrAsH.

Korean Music in general is not as diverse than their Japanese counterparts.

Justin Bieber is a good singer.

My own country's music genre is dominated by love songs and I am generally disappointed.

Christian Rock sucks even as a christian.

Music is just beeps and boops

YOASOBI is starting to get repetitive.

One Ok Rock's new songs are subpar.
