Namely, bc she was a demon.

Many stories like Strange Tales from Pu Songling contribute a guy's demise to the fall of a women seductress, usually depicted as a demon/ghost. It was how stories and people viewed it at that time.

Any demon bad = lead to downfall of human in old stories. Or they really are something you wouldn't necessarily trust. I believe that monk in white serpent's tale went after snake mainly bc she was non-human. Didn't matter if she tried to ascend or cultivate and not harm people (which she eventually did after getting pissed at the monk and drowned people to get to her husband). The white serpent used be villain but with modern revisions, its a tragic love story or so i've heard.

King Zhou died 1046 BCE and his myth that referenced Fengshen Yanyi was written between 1567 and 1619 AD, 2.5 thousand years after his death, nearing the end of Ming Dynasty when it was in decline.

I wonder if it was written in a reaction to unhappiness against the ruling power in Ming time, and the author wrote a story about a king that is corrupt and heroes rising up to rebel and right injustice... is a sort of half historical half fiction.

Reading the text summary of Fengshen Yanyi
Becoming God that oversees marriages was explained that after the crimes of the ruler the 600-year-old country was in jeopardy. Due to corruption and bad stuff... and the main thing was it was tearing families apart (yeah I know it is a weird point to dwell on).

So the torn apart spirit/soul of King Zhou was reassembled to work as that god to put society back together as a sort of penance... by ensuring things like weddings, banquets, good encounters(romantic fate) and happiness happen.

And was said in the book that zhou was not inherently bad was a good ruler until he drowned in lust.

He was 天喜星, the star of heavenly happiness/joy

Btw, does the story of Silkworm Goddess count or Horse-Head Worm count as Demon-Human interaction?

As far as I remembered from folklores and folktales, Jings-Human especially those with Animal Jings tend to end badly when the Animal Jings get exposed. Most of those Spirit spouses get killed or chased off because they were "demons" or evil to humans.

It's not on wikipedia, but other sites I cant remember names of. Some of these sits has changed domain names and etc.a long time ago.

Apparently Daji couldn't hide her feet well under Glamor. So she kept wrapping them up and that trend never stopped.
To add more pressures, there were some crazy and psychopathic Emperors or kings who were more inclined toward ..... youthful appearances, especially with "jade lotus" (small white) feet after the Shang dynasty mess and etc.

One of them was not named, but known for chopping feet off the younger concubines, maids, wives, and etc. and hoarding the feet like a dragon would with gold.

Point is, every ruler be it god, kingdom, empire or dynasty are always messed up in the heads. And they take that messed up stuffs and dump it on other people, then watch everybody burn for shit or whatever.

Broken names are short term cannon fodders and recyled for mob sacrifices.
Whole names scrambled are long term antags.

This recycling plan will do. Not sure if it work though.
