I have access to my dad's phone/photos, which he uses to take pictures of his patients for surgery purposes. So, I can describe what the human body look like from the inside.

Unfortunately, I don't write graphic gore.

Gore doesn't fit what I writes, currently that is. For someone who don't write graphic stuffs, I know a lot of ways to torture and create suffering (physically and psychologically), it's more fun to practice them irl :)

Plus, graphic gore gets boring after a while.

Hmm... I could give some legitimate "unorthodox" things I've done... Though it all makes sense to me.

For instance, I use the color pie from Magic the Gathering to help figure out my character's approaches and philosophies to things, what they'd best align with, and why.

For instance, I needed to figure out Tennis playing styles for some characters. So it went from knowing their personalities, using that to figure out which color in the MTG Color Pie they align with, and from there extrapolating to the Tennis style that best suits them. And after that, I'm going to figure out how to piece the actual Tennis match together using pro wrestling match psychology.

• Write the story you want to read.
• Wordcount limits/goals are bullshit.
• Descriptions are boring. Keep them short and concise. Bring attention only to details that matter.. If I don't need to know it, I don't care about it and neither should you.
• Character development is done through writing. Not by giving them a bulleted list of attributes.
• Do your research on a topic before you write about it and look like an idiot. If your characters are about to build something, like an engine, look up how an engine works. You can get into the more niche details if you want and it's more fun for the reader. Same thing with other topics like medicine, weapons and armor, food/cooking, blacksmithing and other craftsman work, and most other general topics. You don't have to become an expert but an hour down a rabbit hole will do you wonders.
• If you're doing a Magic system, you need to put in the effort to build it in a way that makes sense because there are people (like me) who will look for loopholes, plot armor shenanigans, and you may also find yourself coming up short when actually doing your magic casting. Readers will call you out on your bullshit.

I don’t think that’s strange though. Certainly informative, but there are plenty of advice threads for the normal shiitake mushrooms ?. This is for the odd, the weird, the “oh god, just why?”

well, no. She's my brother's kid but he is an alcoholic and her older brothers follow his example so i can't trust them to take care of her or her little brother so i take it upon myself to watch them whenever they decide to go and get drunk. I mean i get drunk too but i never go OUT and drink, im always in my room taking care of the little ones. Im too old to give a fuck about social drinking anyway.

Anyway, its easier to just say they're mine than explain all this so thats why people think i got kids of my own. Even when he's home he doesnt really play with them anyway or take them on walks to the park so they really just stay with me 24/7 unless the mom takes the boy so yeah.

Im basically babysitting these days. Was harder in the first days since the girl kept crying for her dad but im the best they got and she realized that after a while. Bit sad she doesnt even ask for her dad much anymore and is with me most of the day but, eh, what am i gonna do?

I figure this'll all pay off when im old and infirm, you know? Unless i die of kidney failure first. We'll see. Kinda what im hoping for tbh. Living till old age and i got knee problems just aint ideal.

I can understand and relate to some degree. They're lucky to have someone like you in their lives to be a good father figure. It'll be worth it and I hope that you see that you are loved by them. Also, social drinking is so dumb.
