Hello all friends, I have such problems, I lose motivation to write a novel because I know the spoiler of my novel what to do?? ?
And this is the first major hurtle to reaching that next level of being an author.
Every author should strive to achieve a story where reading it without knowing the ending is one experience, then reading it knowing the ending is an entirely DIFFERENT experience.
Knowing the spoiler should not ruin the story, but CHANGE the story, giving you a new insight and experience.
For example, I have a story where you think X is the good guy and everything he does is Lawful Stupid. But when you get to the end, you realize everything he did was secretly brilliant. NOW when you go back and reread, you realize how he was being self sacrificing and that every annoying thing he did that pissed you off was noble.
The reason to do this is two fold.
One, it makes the reader want to REREAD your story. Rereading gives you more views.
two, it makes your story immune to being spoiled. True, if someone knows the ending, they can't enjoy the Non-spoiled read thru, but they can still enjoy the story once.
Here is the REAL question you should be asking:
HAVE I WRITTEN A STORY I ENJOY RE-READING?
When was the last time you reread your own story, JUST TO ENJOY IT?
If you write a story you don't like to read, then why would anyone else like it?
When I did ghost writing, I will admit, I wrote many a story I have forgotten and will NEVER re-read. In fact, I make a point of deleting any story I sold, just so I NEVER reuse it, knowingly. I was getting paid. I made my money. I moved on.
Since I started writing because I like to write, I find myself, on the many, many, many long stretched at my job where I am just sitting around, waiting for something horrible to happen, I call up my stories on my cell phone and just... read. I make a note to myself, which chapters I go to the most, so I know what I should write more of.
HKN, I like chapter 20, but I also like the "Going Home" arc. I like FTS Book 2 much more than book one, but the scene where Toshi fights off three bullies to protect Ruri, I reread that one too.
If you cannot reread your own story to enjoy it, THAT is your problem.
PRO TIP: Always reread your own stories in the editor. You will ALWAYS find something, some small error, and you will want to correct it. Just read in the editor and Deal with it.
