so, I'm working on a new story. Trying my hand at an isekai, where the MC and his sister enter a new world. on their way, they meet a god-not-god, create their new bodies, etc. It's very clearly stated that they are no longer siblings, as their bodies are entirely new and unrelated. they don't have any genetic code in common, aside from the basics (they're both still human, after all).

to quote the god-not-god, "You're not any longer. All new bodies crafted directly here in character creation. You no longer have parents, siblings, or any current relations."

If MC and his sister were to have a smut scene, would that still be incest, as they still have their memories, despite the different bodies? His mind still remembers her mind, even if the shell is different.

Technically, no. IF they no longer share a blood-relation. I'm sure some people will mention "ethics", but if they share no blood relation than they are NOT related, no matter what anyone tells you.

No incest tag required.

This will depend on your definition of incest. Cause most people say that incest is when there's a biological blood relation between the two. But, you can also say incest is when the two consider each other siblings, or you can say it's when they are formally family. You can definitely explain why it's not incest and you'd be correct, but it's kinda like a thin line between sexual and non-sexual scenes where you might just warn about it so you don't have people complaining later.

Also, there is a very significant mental aspect to incest, which has much more to do with individual perception of the other person than biological relation. In that regard it would definitely qualify as incest, unless you did some real weird mental twists.

I think most commonly, it's about the crime of incest, which requires a blood relation. if it's just about technical and legal familial relations, then sex with a spouse could be classified as such, as you're legally family. that said, the MC's sister had a brother complex before being moved to another world, so that could potentially play a factor as well. She understand that he's no longer her brother, but it's his personality and kindness towards her that she loved.

if they still remember that they were at one point siblings I'd say it was at least a little incestuous simply because I haven't a clue what else it'd be aside from odd and mildly offputting
I agree it could be off-putting for some. I might just take the advice of someone else on here and put a warning, as I do with all my questionable content. but I appreciate the input nonetheless.

It’s not incest if they are not blood related. Everything else are just feelings and feelings are not logical.

You might as well change the question.

What if two unrelated people are implanted with memories of two other people who happened to be siblings and they are both extremely hot.

There is no “soul” then, is that still incest because they have “feelings”? What if they didn’t know they were siblings?

No. Not incest.
If it was, then considering many religions have reincarnation, incest would be well practiced if you decide it is in this circumstance.

I think it's more a kind of perspective. The tag here doesn't seem to really be along legal lines, so the legal definition wouldn't really matter. but starting two characters as siblings, then severing the tie is subtly different from taking two random characters and connecting a tie later on.

It's like finding out your mom is actually just your step mom and your sister isn't really your sister. so it'd be legal to do "things". but would it be immoral and potentially gross? Definitely, simply because you were raised from pre-memory to current age as her brother.

Which is why I was moreso asking if the tag should be used.

If you're going to be strictly physical, no. But incest has the mental aspect to it, which is why this bird would say "yes".

If step siblings, who have been adopted, can commit incest, then that just proves that it is not about sharing the same mother/father, but rather being part of the same family which is the problem.

Incest is about the concept of "Family", so if your characters still have their memories after changing bodies, it would be for the best to tag your story with "Incest" since this would both warn those who are averse to the idea and bring those who like it. It's better to be cautious with a few themes.

And as for why a Married couple is not incestuous, well, it is by their union that the family is constituted. Most of the time they are strangers who have decided to create a new one, not members of an already established family who have united. Calling it incestuous would be putting the cart before the horse… until it isn't.

I'm aware of why married coupling isn't incest, but I do appreciate it :blob_joy:

As for the rest, my original plan was to basically have her be a brocon (sister with a thing for her brother), but he's so stuck in his former mindset of "i'm worthless", that any signs he does see, he reasons that it must've been a mistake, and it was actually accidental. meanwhile, sister keeps wondering if he's truly as clueless as he seems or if maybe there's some other reason he keeps ignoring her "MOVE FORWARD!!" signs.

then, over time, they start to lose that familial bond as they enjoy their new life of adventuring. at which point, a 3rd party chimes in and sets them straight, and THAT'S when the blossom can bloom, so to speak.

also, it may or may not be relevant, but she wouldn't be a primary love interest.

Considering how some people react over the mention of incest, unless it's something you consider essential to your story, I'd not put it if you wish to reach a broader viewership. It's one of those kind of themes which should be treated as "toxic" to any novel...

I'll likely tease it for comedy, and decide on if my readers seem receptive or not. It wouldn't be until like, chapter 20+ that something might happen, so I have plenty of time to gauge it.

Or I might test the idea in another one shot, as I'm also planning a new one shots novel that'd be almost exclusively those "toxic/taboo" themes. mostly for requests that don't fit with my primary one shots novel.

I say go for it, it doesn't sound like incest. Then again of course I would all things considered LMFAO. I'd say leave it out, the reason being that if you include it, it'll deter readers who don't like that tag, when they read it just leave it to them to clash with their morals whether it is incest or not.

Also, here's some shameless self-advertisement lol. How do you guys add your series below your comments btw?

there should be a thread for that, somewhere in the tutorial for the newbie. But, eh, who would ever read through all that, right?

Yeah I did, I was pretty nervous about screwing something up, it's my first time actually publishing anything I've written, plus I wanted to know about the useful features on this site. With that said can I ask for more in-depth instructions or can you link me to the thread? I went to my profile settings but was lost after that, sorry.
