No one should be getting any stars.

5 star system is okay, but there should be a mandatory explanation as to why you give 1, 2, or 5 stars. And the author (or system itself) should be able to disregard all bullshit ones. That would reduce (a bit) the unfairness of this system but in the end, one needs to remember that this is just a subjective opinion of others, and doesn't reflect what you yourself like or not.

Sites like scribble hub should use like only. If you didn't like the story you like it. If you liked the story you like it. If you think the story is mid you like it. Only likes should be left.
Oh wow, the garbage take was hidden all along. Simplifying the rating system is often the first step to ending up restricting how people can express their approval or disapproval.

First time hearing this. If I'm not mistaken, and I don't think I am, SH runs purely on ads.
There are ads, but I doubt they cover all the expenses....

The "no boobs on cover" rule was, I think, added when the ads were added. Advertising companies are very sensitive and have double standards (because their ads have boobs)

Like and dislike, but like Pandora rather than Steam—where there's no global positive/negative rating, only "people similar to your history liked/disliked this".
(I'm not totally sure that's how Pandora works, but it's something along those lines.)

It was more of, Tony does not take donations. I never heard or saw anyone doing it or talking about it. In fact, the last time I heard about it was when I talked with Alice in a feature request thread. Someone mentioned they wanted a feature to donate to Tony.

Lame, ratings are not for the benefit of the authors; they are there for the readers. I shall give 3-5 stars to every story I really enjoyed and 1-2 stars to every story that was awful. You can't stop me.

This is why I advocate for complicating the system :blobspearpeek:
Correct, one should be forced to solve a pre-algebra problem before rating to keep all the sub-85 IQ people away. lol jk

How about profiling readers by placing them on a latent space according to the ratings they give to different genre and lumping them into groups. Then each book receive multiple ratings weighted according different groups. That way you could have "NTR enjoyers and cucks give this book 4.7 star, but everyone else rate it 1.24" or something
