I like Ritoria. It's quite chill, but definitely not as much traffic as Scribblehub or RR. Can also have the occasional weird bug.

Ritoria is okay. I'm just not a big fan of all the dime novel romance plots that fill it's fanbase.

What does that make Wattpad?
Land of the dead?
Okay I know i privately am sometimes sad when i see authors with high dopamine numbers and then read their chapters and be like "my first drafts are better"

but this seems very next level and terrifying. I am thinking of cross posting to RR, so this'll be interesting.

I hope i find some nice community there and not a flamewar waiting to happen
I posted work on RR before posting some of it here as well and find it a community of for the most part terrific folks. My work is as far from that preferred by RR or SH but it has gotten a lot more reads there than here without any issues on either site.

It's pretty toxic and gatekeeps new authors as well as authors who post unedited stories.
Would you mind telling a bit more about it?
I've been there for six months now, and aside from the ongoing duck thing I really cannot say anything bad about the community. And, I certainly don't get the 'gatekeeping' part

It may have toned down over the past few years but when I first started writing, unless if you wrote litrpg, high fantasy, or power fantasy the reader community would bash you for "not fitting the sites niche." As for the author community, they can be helpful people were very hostile to beginning writer's. Mainly because they don't want shitty first drafts on the site because many of them consider RR to be for seasoned authors with honed writing skills.

Not necessarily. SH allows for pretty much anything and has a lot more helpful community for beginners. Yes, those are popular genre's on SH but it isn't that close to the main genre's of the site.
If it isn't the main genre of the site, why are there so much competition between the authors?
Except for those two. You can write pretty much anything else and the author community would not be very hostile to you for having more readers.
Exactly.
Drytron was probably talking about my feedback thread. :blob_uwu:
What thread? I was talking about GB/GL authors in SH having the same attitude as the litrpg, high fantasy, and power fantasy authors in RR.

What kind of attitude? Almost every popular SH author with a couple exceptions don't appear on SH forums. Same for GB\GL authors. They rarely appear here. So I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Most authors in SH write for their enjoyment. The minority who don't are just built different. It's like having RR software inside SH hardware.

Usually, that's because they once tried RR but their kind of story don't do well there so they migrated here. The problem is that they can't write anything else outside that genre.

Because there is always some form of competition between authors.

You're not wrong but at least the GB/GL authors aren't stuck up and toxic. They may be salty but they ain't toxic. Most of them don't even participate in the community because they are building up those sweet writer gains.

I started on RR (not litrpg, but quirky isekai) and I started crossposting here. I have to say I feel this community is much more welcoming. If monetization before publishing was my ultimate goal I’d say RR/Patreon but that’s not what I’m in it for so… I think it depends on your goal.
