I'm putting my cat of 11 years to sleep in about 30 minutes. Not only can I not help you, I'm trying to not fall into a talespin of depression and self-recrimination.

Life sucks and is a never ending litany of pain, suffering, and misery. Ask yourself, what do I leave behind? Do you want to leave an awesome book? Or waste your days on booktok?

Do you have any suggestions on how to restore interest in reading/writing? In this digital era, it is difficult to escape gadgets :(

Set aside 5 mintes a day, set an alarm or reminder to get the habit, and open anything. A book, a doc to write, even just notes to jott down. Build the habit of making it a part of your day and itll eventually come back. The biggest thing to remember is motivation only gets the task started its discipline that keeps you going.

Id also suggest trying to finddays or times you limit your screentime. Go for a walk, sit outside for a bit. Even just stare at the ceiling for a couple hours, itll help refresh your mind to a lot more than just reading/writing.

There are times you might be forcing yourself too much on a certain thing, maybe you should take this a chance to take a break. If something is not fun at the moment, then it might not be the best time to do it.

Jokes aside. I'd say take a break, it's possible you could be burnt out. Once you feel the craving, come back and see if you can write/read. If writing still isn't fun, it's possible it's just not for you.

This.

Also, during the break, try to revisit what made you start to write in the first place. Mine was a certain webnovel in this very site, along with Fake Saint of The Year.

Get a flip phone and bring books and/or notebooks with you when you go places. Have a desktop computer, but don't keep it in your bedroom if you can avoid it.

Also . . . use condom! If you have a baby, you'll be reading nothing but parenting books in the bathroom (or picture books to the child) for the next three years or more because first you have to hold your breast to keep your nipple in its mouth for six months, and then it becomes more mobile and positions itself for breastfeeding, but then it also starts grabbing books and pencils out of your hand when you try to ignore it and do your own thing and you can barely get household chores done, let alone anything along the lines of reading or writing. If you do manage to sit down and work on something, you'll be climbed on, and you'll put the project away because you were painting something for the kid, and the kid will scream and cry and beg you to keep painting the thing, and so you tell the kid that you'll try again tomorrow, but you're too touched out and overstimulated to continue today.

I bought an ereader. The comfy screen and lack of any side apps makes paying attention to what I'm reading much easier.
