Are readers interested in gender role reversal stories? I'm curious about this. They seem fun if they are done right.

An example is that one. Its not my story, but I wanted to ask this for research of my writing. Since I'm a writer I have to write...

And does a story where the women chase the men, for the physics of it, is it necessary for that to work for there to be more women than men in that world? (And in this story I can't remember if there are more women than men in that world? Does someone know?)

Would readers like to see a story similar to this in its genre traits?

I could have sworn there was a story with that very synopsis in a different site but I can't remember which site. Was it here?

There are a few of those stories in ScribbleHub, mostly tagged as "Matriarchy." There are many more examples in Novel Updates, though, as the Asians love that trope.

EDIT: I believe the other site has a proper tag for it; they don't use "matriarchy."

Do they have a larger female to male population ratio in this 1 and those other ones?

There needs to be an explanation for the role reversal and scarcity seems an easy one. There's other explanations. Having the females be physically stronger? Maybe a magical world, with only females being magical and needing to dominate a men to advance their magical potential. With men, now the weaker sex, needing to be protected from unscrupulous, aggressive females? But simply having a huge imbalance between male and female checks a lot of boxes all at once.

Could just be because of cultural norms that somehow led to a very powerful, exclusive group of women in charge. There's some historical precedents for it. Probably the most famous would be the "Spartan Heiresses" that at times had more social and financial power than even the kings.

For a woefully brief overview, basically unlike many places back then that passed inheritance to male progeny, Sparta typically passed inheritance to the spouse of the departed. Considering how many young men died in battle back then, it was very common for the wives of soldiers to get that inheritance. Widows were also allowed to re-marry, which meant they could marry another young man who dies in battle, inherit his wealth too, so on, so forth. Of major importance is that Spartan citizens were all effectively landed aristocrats. Every single citizen. This is less because of any utopian traits and more because of the ridiculous amount of Helot slaves they had. So even the youngest and poorest Spartan male citizen still had a lot of inheritance to pass on. It wasn't unheard of for some women to get several inheritances in their lives.

Now take into account how those same female inheritors could pass on their wealth to their daughters, and then those daughters could marry and inherit from multiple men, and you might see how this snowballed over the course of centuries into having some very, very powerful women. They still didn't have the right to vote or a lot of other modern human rights, but they were extremely wealthy and could bribe votes as they wished.

Now don't get it confused that all women back then were gold diggers. From what accounts we have, most women did love the men they married and were devastated if he died. Maybe not surprised, but still grieving heavily. But as with any society with enough humans, there definitely were some ambitious people that took advantage of the system as much as they could. Which just means the most powerful women tended to be the ones who were willing to get their hands dirty in pursuit of power. Go figure...

So, a fictional setting could have humans be just the same as IRL but still have a heavily matriarchal society with something like that going on. As in, not every single woman dominating every single man, but definitely some very powerful women dominating everybody else. Maybe using it as a launch pad for how new norms might develop in such a system. Something like voting rights shifting from male-only to female-only, justifying it with "men are too susceptible to bribery", while ironically that law is passing because of all the votes the powerful women bribed.

Your points on a social, political and financial matriarchy are vaid. But not so much sexually. I don't see the "story where the women chase the men" as in naosu question. Not to mistake "who's in charge" of sexually in our society, I already see that to be mostly females. The switch I think he's looking for is the reversal of who holds the reward (woman) and who's working for it (men).

There is a thing called femdom.
Also, there is this other thing called Futa.

Can't get more "role reversal" than that.

Goonhub offers it all. There are certainly a lot of readers interested in these things.

A lot of Femdom stories feature dominant lesbian MC's and Futa as a stand-in for male equipment. So often it's more role replacement than reversal.

not all species of animal have the male bigger, smaller female setup. Sexual dimorphism is what biologists call it when one is bigger and stronger than the other. Perhaps the extreme case is the Black Widow spider. The male is lucky not to get *eaten* after successfully impregnating the female. He's like a bug compared to her size. no one has any idea how this was a successful evolutionary adaptation.

Humans are sexually dimorphic, the males on average bigger and stronger then the females. Human MATING STRATEGY however, varies. There *is* a male aggressive, male non-lethal combat ritual to human mating. Example: I seen her first! The men fist fight. The female is impressed (swoons) over the bigger stronger male that wins. Elaphae Obsoleta, the humble rat snake (black snake, commn term) has non lethal male combat ritual as a mating feature. The males rise up, and engage in wrestling. they seek to press the other to the ground, in some sort of a "pin". Its not clear to humans who "won", but they know... the loser slithers off and the winner mates.

humans also have an alternate mating strategy. the male prepares a nest, and is more caring to show how good he'll be at feeding and caring for the mate and the hatchlings. This is more reminiscent of many bird species. The male will be the one to have highly colored feathers, and perform mating dances and songs. Many of these birds, the males make the nest, and feed the female to show how good of a mate they will make.

human beings actually have a split strategy. They can do one, the other, or both.

The male lion, with his kingly mane? He roars, and sort of announces the hunt. Yet you will see mainly the females going out, and actually bringing down the large prey doing the hunting. Female lions are not entirely unable to defend themselves against the advances or violence of the males. When a female lion says "no!", she's not kidding.

A word about dominant or submissive behavior. Laymen hear the words dominant and submissive, and assume that its both behavior in daily life, as well as behavior in a relationship and in the bedroom. Its * not*. dominant (alpha) behavior at work or socially, is NOT the same as dominant in the relationship, nor in the bedroom.

A very dominant alpha male, aggressive at work and socially both. Socially successful at both, mind you. Could be "submissive" in his relationship with his pair bonded mate. That simply means when he comes home from work, he has no issue with the wife making or suggesting most decisions. Its actually far more common, then people think. Also, submissive in the BEDROOM, is separate from submissive in the relationship, and submissive socially.

Laymen see "sexy videos" of (supposedly) "dominant women". Rest assured, you're seeing nothing of the kind. All you are seeing, is a performance.

SOME human societal structures have at times, had the female of the species, doing very "male" things. I forget the tribe name, but... the males? Paint their bodies and make and wear jewelry and feathers. They cook and clean up, and engage socially. The women do most of the gathering of food and other "male" activities. No one knows how or why this happened, but to that tribe, that was normal. Yes, the females engage in combat ritual, to claim a male mate. When that tribe and its area was at one time more widespread, the females from one village, would fight the females form the other village.

Human Sexuality as a discipline in psychology? Is not a "gooner" course of study. You can find yourself cracking open 800 page textbooks of technical reference material. And the bullshit all across the internet, the talk shows, etc... is "bumper sticker" level of depth and understanding, and that's at best.

My Dennis Miller rant, is now over. As you were.

The male black widow is still risking his life to breed. Male birds dancing, displaying and providing all, to catch the eye of the female mate. Males compete to impress, females choose who won... And, at the end of the day, the lioness can still say no. Bigger, stronger and dominant, these roles can gender switch. But I can't think of a species where the choice of who to mate with isn't ultimately made by the female. (Except those who fertilize outside of the body, like fish. And rape, which happens in both human and animal societies).

rape, as we humans have come to define it? Is a curious thing. Its actually the "normal" throughout the mammalian animal kingdom. the male sort of chases down the female, and holds her while forcing impregnation on her. Witness cats mating. The other curious thing about this mammalian "rape". The female comes around making "displays" that initiates it. To find an analogy in human sexuality? male domination of female submissives, is *quite* common. The women love to be put in collars, and dominated physically. Women's magazines? Are *overflowing* with "curious" letters. "My husband? From the moment I met him... there's was just no telling my Bobby 'no'..."

Question: She met "bobby". There was no "telling him no". What exactly does that mean, and imply? Hm? Women themselves report that when its "the right guy" they don't have to say or do anything. The "right guy" just "knows" everything's okay. While we don't call that rape... what is not being able to say "no", exactly mean. Now juxtapose that, against all the (extremely popular) dark romance stories. The woman is basically taken against her will, dominated and all but raped... and loves the guy for it.

"Pretend rape" is pretty much the gold standard for "hot sex". Read the books that women themselves write. The have a rich, boring, caring husband at home, They (in the book) go out and get "taken" by some "bad boy". He's rough with her, he uses force, she loves it.

the whole thing just makes me roll my eyes, and shake my head.

then you have "female domination".
the guy loves it, when both are pretending that the female is, more or less, raping him and "making" him do those... dirty things.
Please. Everyone knows all this, its no secret in today's world.

the only difference is? People that read and write *smut* admit openly what everyone knows and giggles about.

Witness cats mating.
Female cats spray pheromones when they want to be mated; they are only yelling while sex happens because the barbs on a male cat's penis can be quite painful. I wouldn't call it rape if she consciously sprayed an "I'm horny" Febreze in the presence of males.

"Pretend rape" is pretty much the gold standard for "hot sex".
Oh, okay. That is true.

Gender role reversal stories?! I simply MUST praise this story by ZannaYO. Hands down my favorite SH story. :)

The story is a matriarchal reverse harem set in a fictional world inspired by Heian Japan and Han China. The main character grows up to become the Queen of the nation, so you get both political drama and romance with multiple boys. It has a really in depth research on customs, traditions, theology/religion, and mindset. The role reversal isn’t dudes getting ravaged by hungry women like many other reversal stories here. Men are expected to be soft spoken, beautiful, and submissive while women are expected to be strong, outspoken, and leaders. The worldbuilding is amazing. You simply must give it a go if you truly want to try out a role reversal or matriarchy story.

Edit: man I should’ve read all of this thread before replying. What in the world are y’all derailing this to…

Totally not asking for any particular reason, definitely not because your post screams incel and has nothing to do with role reversals.

I don't use Pornhub. LOL

what the fuck kind of rape manifesto did i just read
Why are you sad reacting my comment? I live in a country where the women were obsessed with "50 Shades of Grey" and "The Handmaid's Tale." " Amazon itself admitted that the majority of Amazon Kindle's profits come from women reading erotica, most of it BDSM. IRL bookstores also make that claim.

EDIT:

Why would you encourage people to leave? Plz no bully. I never wanted OtherSlater (or the other two people) to leave, I wanted her to realize that we (the ScribbleHub community) aren't "out to get her" nor do we "hate her" just because we disagree on a topic.
