It doesn't matter. You both want to wrote and have people see it. Why does it matter where you publish and how so long as you both are helping yourselves and others to reach the same goal.
Some sites are, however, more viable than others, especially when it comes to visibility of your work.
Some are too small, usually with more writers than readers.
Some demand the additional hoops to jump through, some have restrictions which are simply not worth the effort.
So? Like I said in my first post, I'm always looking for new places to post my stories. More sites = more eyes on my stories = more success. Even if I somehow became a NYT Bestseller by posting on FA, why wouldn't I also want the views I would get from RR? (Besides the fact that I got banned there)
I gave you some suggestion.
You could post on forums.spacebattles.com or on forums.sufficientvelocity.com.
There are plenty of readers, fan-fiction or the original works could be posted there, and it is even expected. You don't need anything but an account. They are Internet Forum in structure, hence any update you make to your story, any comment others make for your story, would bump it up to the top. There aren't any ratings, any reviews to worry about. People could and will post mean things to your threads, occasionally, as anywhere on the Internet, but when you compare them to the competitive level toxicity of the Royal Road, they are practically all refined gentlemen.
You just have to deal with their rules ...
