Yes it does, obviously. But that doesn't mean that you don't have a purpose if there is nothing nor someone for you. A bit of a bad question, I'd say.

Shackles. Bonds. Restraints.
A shattered existence held in servitude for the benefit of others.
Wow. Do you use a computer? Guess what, millions of people in a intricate web of capitalism exists to allow you to post on the internet.

Indirectly, they all do this shit for you. They might have other reasons, but in a very small fraction, a non-zero amount, it is for you.

We all serve. We all benefit. It is called a society and seeing it in such cynical fashion does it no justice.

Yes you are restrained by the social contract try breaking it sometime and see where that gets you.

I'd say yes.

In fact, I'd say that conversely, there's little to no meaning if your only goals are centered around your own personal satisfaction. We just plain can't fill our psychological needs caring only for ourselves. We'd just end up quickly spiraling into dissatisfaction and depression.

That said, this is also a train of thought I generally only see started by people (myself included) who just got hit by something going very badly in their life, so, one internet stranger to another: hope things are going okay for you, or at least will be soon.

that depends on what you call a meaning

I'm pretty selfish. So my life will have no meaning for me if lived only for the benefit of others. If I do expend energy on someone else I want to see a return on that investment. I am no-one's servant.

Edgy kids saying that is not right to live for others dont remember they got their own parents doing exactly that for them. Makes you think how much lack of empathy they have lol. If it wasnt for people living their lives for you, you or your entire family wouldnt even be here. We build our entire family system and society by caring on one another, even when you hate society or your family so much, it was thanks to your ancestors doing this that you're here alive now as a descendant of all of them.

In that way, do you consider your parents as your servants then? Are you that stupidly edgy?

OP doesn't define what "living for other" means, and it's an important component of the answer.

Here an exemple of two extreme ends of the spectrum: Let's say you have a close one who fell to a long-term self destructive addiction and hedonism. They request your help to provide them resources to pursue their current trajectory.

Path 1 (hidden ego): you judge that they aren't taking the "correct" path you decided and put all your effort into changing them for their sake.

Path 2 (slave way): suspend all personal judgement, and fulfill their request.

In reality, we act in between these two paths because path 1 allows to lend your personal strengths and vision while path 2 recognizes that your judgement cannot take in the full depth of the person's situation and being unable to see the future to see what's really good.

That's the same thing with modern job. A long time ago, people traded services in "path 1" way allowing workers to fully express their strength. But now, jobs expect you to act as a slave for tasks that only the employer values regardless of the worker's opinion.

There's a way of living for others that is actually personal and feel meaningful and another way that is purely for compromise and coexistence but doesn't carry personal meaning. The second one isn't inherently bad but is unsustainable for a normal human being.
