Labeling chapters with sex

I mean, that's a stupid spoiler. If I see "oh, there will be sex in 3 chapters," it kinda ruins the vibe.

Just mention that this is an NSFW story and as such contains sexual content, and that should be more than sufficient.

At most mention [NSFW] or something. I've seen stories that have 5 levels of smut content and tell you the exact level... a little too overkill for me.

You know, one of the smut stories I read a few years ago (on this site) had a dude start an orgy with his grandmother and her BDSM friends. He was straight up f*sting the GILFs, elbow deep. That might be too extreme for some people, so a 3/5 warning might be appreciated. LOL

Oh, he was getting it. It was one of those reversed gender role stories where all the men act like women except MC and all the women act like sex offenders. He was definitely getting his grandma's inheritance.

Depends on the story and nature of the scene, but in general, I would say they are not needed.
An exception can be explicit scenes that are significantly different from the rest of the story, e.g. a straight scene in an otherwise yuri story, or an entire optional chapter dedicated to explicit content every once in a while. The latter also makes it easier to remove those chapters if your hypothetical publisher or hosting site does not want that kind of content.

The writing community has done more to censor itself than any platform or government has recently. I really don't think labeling is necessary, and I'm not sure where the idea really comes from. I don't think there are many works considered amongst the literary greats where critics said "I wish every chapter had a warning about what was going to happen in the chapter."

If you are writing a story that is not sex focused, but are going to add some chapters with things people will not like even being mentioned, make those chapters skippable and mark them as such.
Maybe summerise things in the following chapter if needed.

If you go looking for smut, don't complain when you face it coming straight at you without warning.

Just looked it up in google. The action in some clips is so bad and slow (both the actual action and getting to it), yeah 1 star

Any reader that is too lazy to skim the synopsis, look at the genre and tags, deserves what they get. A little "moral discomfort" is letting them off easy. For that matter, wtf is up with feeling any "moral outrage" from story content? If I'm unhappy with a story, I stop. I'm not into "boy's love". There's nothing wrong with it, it's just not for me. So I don't read it. But that doesn't mean others shouldn't or that it needs to be censored in any way. Stop bending over backwards to protect the timid reader. Give them a quick content heads up. They have the responsibility in selecting what they choose to read. If they ignore the warnings, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Listen, I think of it as a PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS, DEER ACTIVE AT NIGHT, MOOSE CROSSING NEXT 2 KM, or whatever sign. Nothing is censored; just giving readers fair warning before they discover the writer gave their MC a foot fetish.
