:blob_aww: Funnily, the zombie must be one of the original American contributions to world literature, but it also tells much about the American psyche. :blob_reach:

Actually, Haitian folklore from sometime in the 1600s I believe. It didn't really enter literature until the 1700s. I believe it wasn't until films started using it in the 1930s that it really made much of an appearance in American culture (could be wrong there)... and honestly, not until 68, when Night of the Living Dead was released, did it become more mainstream.

I feel like one of those islands on the middle of a lake is pretty good.

Pros:
-safe from zoms
-room to grow food
-also safe from other humans, usually
Cons:
-weather/flooding
-other humans with the same idea
-gotta take a boat to the mainland, hard to do it in a stealthy way
-actually getting there (I live in a city)

Also, i guess the question is...is it early in the z apocalypse or late in it

Where would yall hold up?
Hold out in Epstein island

I was talking about the genre. Not the concept. :blob_reach:

I don’t know where my last stop is (probably dead before I find somewhere decent) but a rural post office is a good first stop.

They have pretty durable vehicles designed to haul a relatively large amount of cargo that are gassed up and have the keys on site, and tend to be sturdy buildings in their own right.

More urban post offices probably cancel out the benefits because the roads are so clogged up

Let’s be honest the Epic of Gilgamesh had a goddess threaten to break the gates of the underworld and let the dead swarm out and devour the living. Compared to how much vampires or dragons have drifted as a concept, “dead people want to eat me” is a shockingly ancient and durable concept.

Either with the MC of @AliceMoonvale's zombie diary story or far away from her. No in-between.

Lmao. become her best, loyal friend and convince her you're valuable, you'd have one of the strongest allies to protect you.
or yeah, pray you never encounter her at all. :blob_evil:

And there's plenty of fucked content that tells about the psyche of all other humans all over the world.
I still regret ever looking at junji ito's work. I prefer masahiro ito's work, cause pyramid head.
Why do japanese guys with ito as their last name make some weird ass horror shit? lmao

Not sure what exactly you want me to elaborate.
But there's plenty of horrific things non americans have created, some I can't list and show here.
:blob_frown: Then you have missed the point. The emphasis was on American psyche, not psyche of Americans.

Not really.

If the 'american psyche' contributed to the modern zombie, with the theme of fears of things like loss of individualism and consumerism, then the chinese, for example, also contributed to it with their Jiangshi. The silly little guys that hop around with that thing on their face. They represent deep cultural fears as far as I'm aware. Every culture seems to build their own 'zombie'. So, that's why I don't think it's necessarily just the american psyche at play. But yeah, they definitely got the modern zombie down. (and they're cooler) :blob_shade:

Underlying question purposely ignored! Goalpost successfully moved! Attempt at further diversion detected!

Anyway, here a cookie for you. :blob_cookie: You may have the last word.

I don't like cookies very much, you can have it~
Didn't know that pointing out the concept of zombies existing globally and used by other cultures to reflect their psyches was moving the goalpost. Oh well. :blob_sir: I was vaguely told to elaborate, so I did.

Step 1: Build a big lawn around my parents' house.
Step 2: Do the usual stuff my parents do for fun (gardening, farming, DIY projects)
Step 3: Occasionally throw a rock at the single zombie walking around in the countryside that wasn't bulldozed by tractors or trucks already
Step 4: Life goes on as usual if you avoid the big cities.

Zombie apocalypse is such a Murrican thing, though. The gun nerds always need to walk into those densely packed areas, make noise, and then get killed like the idjits they are for some reason. Countryside life is easy mode, unless it's a "the dead rise from their graves" kind of apocalypse and not the viral/pandemic/bio weapon kind.

Uhhh. I would dig out in a grave and run an extension cord from the nearest outdoor outlet, then I would pay someone to bury me In the grave in a coffin, with the cord going through. Then I would play Botw until I die of starvation/suffocation.

I ain't trying to survive a zombie apocalypse, that sounds boring.
