How traumatized are/will your characters (be)?

I'm just wondering how traumatized y'all have currently made your characters, and any future ideas of trauma.

My character has almost died three times already. First time was from a forest corrupted by darkness, second and third time was from fighting corrupted Nyorans, which is the race of people in my story. Second time was them trying to shred him to pieces, third time was one of them shooting him with an arrow when he wasn't paying attention.

That also doesn't include the times he's been threatened because he's been infected by the darkness, even though he can't be corrupted by it.

That's all that's happened for now, there's a good chance he might lose vision in an eye, and lose an arm, but that won't happen for a while.

Anyways, what's your character's trauma?

My character has some trauma, but I don't make trauma a priority in storytelling. Trauma should never be a focus for a good narrative. A good narrative can create trauma in a character, but you don't need trauma to have a good narrative. I have no idea what possesses authors to focus on traumatizing their characters.

Now that Miura has unleashed Berserk on the world, any further attempt to create Trauma is doomed to fail. /s

Trauma is literally the engine driving her magic so, to paraphrase Strongbad:
Flagrant Fiction Error
World Over.
Trauma = Very Yes.

But she does get a fainting goat who adores her, so she's got that going for her.

Well, my main duo will end up pretty traumatized during the second arc, most of it is just from the first arc, and just gets worse until they finally get some professional help during the time skip. So, I guess as the story progresses, despite the growing levels of danger, they manage to actually become less traumatized. Maybe they're masochists. 🤷‍♂️

MC is able to bounce back pretty well. He gets pretty stressed at time what with the slavery and being forced to kill people to survive, but his primary coping mechanism is putting a positive spin on things.

If you want trauma, that’s more the department of Filli the rat-girl supersoldier mutant who had to nearly gnaw her arm off at around 11 years old and is very loyal to MC for saving her from slavery. She’s loyal in a very CIA kind of way, where she will protect this naive idiot from his own stupidity and what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.

My readers like Filli. Indeed they like both of the extremely physically unattractive women that hang out around the MC instead of being in his polycule quite a lot.

In my second story, I made my character broken. And he has a breakdown, like a few chapters in.

In canon before the novel even started, V's "parents" died in a car crash and on his birthday of '97. He saw a woman kill herself. Each of those two events happens in the same month. V was both 17 and 18. Then he became a drunk and smoked for ten years. He also dead and killed lots. Then he saw ever horror of man ever. Then he lost his left eye. All this happens in like the first 26 chapters of a 69 chapter book that still going. Also the stuff that happen in the cave.

Whoa, sounds like all the psychos gathered in one thread! 🤣 My characters feel safe compared to some of these replies.
