How To Respond to Comments

I appreciate the vast majority of comments I get on my story, but I don't really know how to respond to most of them... most of them I'm like "ooh that's a cool thought but I can say almost nothing without spoilers" or "hmm, not my interpretation but I enjoy hearing yours or "ooh yeah exactly my interpretation" or "ooh yay cookie-eating emoji! ...am I supposed to respond with an emoji, or...?"

There were two comments I felt I could usefully respond to, with the rest I've just liked the ones I appreciate.

Is that going to make me look standoffish?

How does one do this?

If they are asking questions maybe respond. Speculating on what might happen in the future might not warrant a response. If a spelling error is pointed out commenting something like "fixed" might be enough to show you listen.

Thanks!

Luckily I've been the only one noticing my spelling errors so far... or at least, no one's pointed them out. >.>;

I reply to all my comments. Or at least I do try if nothing else than with a blob. I had whole conversations with nothing but blobs, doing it hieroglyph-style.

We are a simple folk, a simple melon, popcorn, perhaps even more cookies, shall suffice, :blob_cookie:
But otherwise no, you can ignore us, :blob_cookie:

I've had comments asking stuff like "Why did this character do this?" "Doesn't make sense."

But... they've already been explained in the chapters before it. Heck, sometimes it was explained on the same chapter they commented on.

Note, some of them are valid and I've fixed them (Grammar errors creating misunderstandings). But some of them made me ask if they've really read the story at all.

Maybe it's my fault for not being able to write my scenes very well...

I hate "TFTCs". Mostly because I don't know how to respond to them.
I must respond to them, but should I type "Thank you for reading?"
I can like the comment, but they wouldn't know if that like came from me or another reader.
Would be nice if SH added a "heart" feature like on YouTube

I'm thinking if I get another one of these, I'll just respond 'TY', to keep it on the same level of acronyms.

RepresentingEnvy's method also good though.

"Thanks for your thorough and thoughtful review. I will keep your suggestions in mind for my next rewrite."

It doesn't say you WILL use the suggestions. It doesn't even say that you WILL do any rewriting at all. You can use it whether you agree or disagree with the comments. It just lets people know that they have been heard.
