Hello all! I'm slightly out of my scope here but I recently got a drawing tablet (ugee M708, $25 baby! barely used whoo!!!!) the main reason I got it was so i can eventually make my book covers because I am broke, slightly artistic albeit rusty, and... well that's it. I used to draw all the time but I have never used a drawing tablet before... I seem to be doing okay and am currently doing slimes cause the human form still scares me... specifically hands and feet.

ANYWAY! I digress, I would love to turn my books into comics one day so I really want to improve my drawing, I have been drawing 30 minutes ish a day (which has been super fun!) but the tablet is kind of... different. fun but different. So if you all have any recommendations for beginners and any good youtube/ short form video or channel recs I would really appreciate it!

PS... LOOK AT MY FIRST BABY SLIME!!! Is it perfect? No... but... I LOVE IT!!!!

set your pen pressure, find a brush that makes your art look good, learn/set up the shortcuts you need the most, practice so that you gain muscle memory

I have been summoned.

Well, no other way but to practice. Pen tabs feel completely different on the first try, especially if you are used to pen and paper. But once you get the hang of it, it will be your best friend.

I can't recommend any YT channel since I learned drawing by reading tutorials and practicing until I was able to draw under two minutes.

Also, @Bimbanana that slime is the one blob I made for SHF. :blobreading:

I'll have to play around with pressure and brushes... thank you! I will not let my fear deter me from settings!
I cannot draw, but i'll summon one who's good at it. And he's a slime also!

*chanting summoning spell*

Come forth, o otherworlder hero @Hans.Edward.Trondheim

Thanks!

Not gonna lie, I didn't really get over drawing on paper. My artworks are a combination of traditional lineart and digital colors.

Yeah, I did that back when the OG SHF Alice (@AliceShiki ) requested a new chibi for this place.
That's amazing!!! you are super talented! I'll have to keep practicing... hopefully I can show some progress in a week or so!
Don't rush. It'll be incredibly frustrating in the first days and weeks, especially coming from traditional medium. You'll have to keep reminding yourself to move your hand while looking at the monitor, trusting your pen tablet mapped the entire screen on its surface.

Yeah, make sure your tablet's app mapped the entire screen. Also, adjust your pen's sensitvity to your liking. Afaik, pen tabs are default set on making lines at the slightest touch possible; I set mine at the middle. Not too light, not too heavy.

I actually havent had issues with looking at the screen while drawing on the tablet, my problem is having to select things around the boarders and stuff... but I'm just having fun! I'm thinking a gelatonous cube will be next!

Ah, if that's the case, you'll get used to it faster.

What exactly is your problem with selecting around the borders? You mean the tools and effects?

Well, I'm still getting used to hovering so I don't draw lines... and the only software i have used it gimp so Krita is just taking me a minute.
