Ubisoft keeps making failure after failure. Uninspired game after uninspired game.

Now, FromSoftware is joining them. Although their descent into garbage started from ER itself, their next game only showcases to the masses of fanatics the truth. Their next game, ER DLC called Nightreign, is an uninspired, blatant cashgrab. They've become money grubbing and have stopped caring about their consumers. They're only trying to fill their pockets now, and it's so obvious. I'm ashamed of being FromSoftware stan all these years.

I think what you are experiencing is mainstream. The souls series was a niche before. Meaning, they had a dedicated following for a specific type of game, which doesn’t appeal to most.

However, with the shift to mainstream appeal. It means appealing to others outside the base. This means following trends, and even changing up the formula to meet the majority demand to sell more.

This includes how gameplay is done, and the type of content put out. I’ve seen it happen many times. In time, these games start looking like the others and loses its individuality.

Whether that is a good or bad thing is up for debate. Though, money speaks.

Money doesn't speak. In case of ER, they earned it simply because there was no opposition that year. They sold their soul for money. Some might even say, they sold their dark soul for money. Badum-tss.

True, there really wasn’t much. Plus a lot of flops that year. ER had an easy time, because there wasn’t really anything good that made it to the front the page.

Either way, it sold extremely well. So, the money will direct their course from there.

I personally didn't like ER much. I got some enjoyment out of the first few bosses, but I think the game did a lot of good. One of my friends was brought into the franchise by Elden Ring, and she went on to play Dark Souls 3.

It's too early to write off FromSoftware. I don't like how Nightreign looks, but I wouldn't count the studio out yet. So what if they make one bad game? Many thought ER was great.

Wait. Did formsoft ever make a game that's not a souls-like?
Did Forza Developers make a game that's not Forza? Did Bungie make anything other than Shooters? ?‍♂️

Bruh, I don't even want to talk to you about it for the nth time. The fact ER brought in new players doesn't mean anything since they are freaking casuals. They will keep asking for casual gameplay, and From will keep answering their needs. Because Namco owns them, and Namco wants money.

Pretty much this, you’ll have to wait and see. Right now, it is too early to tell. Though, the signs are there. However, those signs can be proven wrong. Just gotta wait and see for yourself.

Nah, From Software will be next square enix with its FF series. A whole load of $$$ will be spent for ordinary consumers to not give a damn for their almost yearly games. They'll add a lot of mechanics for mechanics sake and then it will be slow march towards bloat, ending with FS being yet another JP studio being carried with the old titles

FF XVI, I have a hard time remembering the gameplay. It was more of a cinematic experience. Which woulda been fine, if they made a movie or series about it.

Though, I remember the gameplay was laughably bad. Can’t really remember the story as well, so probably wasn’t good.
The only reason I enjoyed ER was for the open world.

I don't know much about Square Enix to be able to judge this. I only know they killed FF7.

I think you got that a bit reversed. Fromsoftware came out with the souls genre and the mechanics that went with it. Souls-like came about from people imitating the formula.

I see your point. I am not saying it's bad, I was just wondering.

But, side note Bungie did go downhill when they only made shooters.

Myth II: Soulblighter was terrific... at the time.

Hm? Care to explain?
I remember Square Enix tried to do a NFT scam I think it was. They tried to release a game, where only a handful could access the final boss or something like that.

Been a while, but I remember that scam was when I decided I can’t support them any longer.

To be fair, From Software is a very old studio. Not only did they make Armored Core, which is not a souls like, they made, for example, Kuon. Kuon is survival horror. I won't pretend like I played them all, and I am a From super fan, but I liked their soulslike games a lot... Untill ER came out...

ER open world is less than garbage.
