Do people do fan fiction of fan fiction? Like, Isekai into fan fiction of other people's fan fiction about a story?

I'm asking because I had an odd conversation and I doubt it's going anywhere, but they wanted to know if I'd mind fan fiction about my superhero story. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Have any of you thought about writing a story based on the setting of another writer here? Would you allow someone else to write a story in your setting?

Then it got me thinking about, I wonder if anyone ever swapped characters? Like, have an Isekai where you wind up in author X's story and their character winds up in your story and then do a side story about that nonsense for a while?

Then I got the idea of a contest, where everyone had to have written at least one story, you randomly put all the stories in a spreadsheet, then every author has to move their MC into the setting of the story below them on the list, except for the last guy who gets moved to the top. Or you get a New MC for your story, one or the other. Wondering if that's ever been done.

Well. I can tell you it does exist, as someone who is currently basically writing one... Though in my case I'm only taking the first three chapters of the fanfiction and immediately going in an entirely different direction. Hell, the root mechanics of the worlds aren't even the same.

But, I imagine there are likely some. Just not as popular as writing fanfiction of 'professional' works.

The frequency of AU/OC/reader per word of synopsis isn't high enough here to make this query meaningful here.

So you want bread in your bread and asked the dead who's your dad? Dad people can't be alive since the Archery class is really made up of arsehats. You missed your grand order, so you get the impact. If DC doesn't work, try AC to girll your OC and try to bleach 'im in one piece in a router. And watch Boku no Pico like an academic!! The day of rectconning is here!!! Safe your shelves!!!1!!!!!1111!!!!!!oneoneone!!!

Fate series is a fanfic of a fanfic, for example, Carnival Phantasm, Fate/Apocrypha and it's spin-offs (in the case of Fate/Lost Einherjar, a fanfic of a fanfic of a fanfic). It might be approved by the mushroom overload, but it doesn't evade the fact others make fanfic of his fanfic (the Holy Grail Wars when it boils down, is just him having fun seeing which historical figure can beat which historical figure)
