Does music help in writing? Like listening to something epic when writing a fight scene or something soothing or upbeat when writing a romantic scene? Or just music in general... i personally like listening to lofi when i sit down to write.

I listen to music, pretty much any genre at random so long as nothing is being sung in English.

I'm gonna listen to this when i write the next chapters for my story. About to finish the very first volume and this music sounds amazing... I'm no music connoisseur but this gives me the feeling of a new dawn after some dark time. Perfect.

Damn... that's genius and too high leveled a task for me😅. Do your readers catch find these easter eggs often?
Hell if I know. I've got one comment and no reviews. I do it for my own amusement mostly, but I think that even if you don't pick up on the reference directly it still acts as a kind of subconscious soundtrack if that makes sense? Like your brain registers the emotional connection to the song in a subliminal way? Or IDK, maybe I've got my head up my butt.

It's fun to try and slip them in though, like a little wink to anyone that catches them.

I find I write best when listening to music where I can't understand a word. That way the lyrics can't distract me. My favorite is Korpiklaani, though I've also been known to enjoy anime theme tunes and theme songs to french cartoons

same approach for me, though you wouldn't know it since I'ven't posted anything publically in years (~ ̄▽ ̄)~

sometimes, but it has to be lyric free or ill find myself singing my heart out instead of writing LOL. I do listen to regular songs too, but usually it's just for inspirational purposes, not necessarily to put on loop while I write.

Here's an example. It's probably the most blatant one, should be easy to spot. For context, the MC (Eya) has just done something that caused her grave moral injury. She knew what she was doing and why it needed to be done, but it represented a relapse into past behavior that she had been trying to escape and now she has to deal with the reality of it. Her new friends don't know what she did or what she was before they met, and now she must try to keep it covered up by playing normal. The referenced song helps capture her mood, that depressed need to shun the brightness and happiness in the world and just sit with grief.

Again, this one wasn't subtle but so far no one has pointed it out so who knows?

Eya stood in the street outside of the Ebontide Lodge. She had been there for at least five minutes, just staring at the red entry door. She hated that door, truth be told. Always had.

The tarred and weathered walls of the lodge stood out as unique to her; a promise of comforting solitude and safety. That damn red door just...broke it all up. She wanted it to match the building. When the sun broke the horizon, blaring its bright light into her eyes, she realized just how long she'd been standing there and stalling. Her battered senses were then shocked back into the forefront by a burst of insufferable giggling to her left. She watched as a group of young women walked past, headed to the city center for the opening of the shops. Their dresses and smiles were as bright as the intrusive morning sun. They were human and couldn't have been any older than she, but they felt like an entirely different species to her in that moment. When they spotted the bedraggled cleric, they turned their heads and quickly looked away. She grimaced and turned her head as well until the dark shame in her heart passed.

Eya wiped her eyes and ran her hands through her hair, trying to restore some of its body. Deep down she knew it was futile though, she felt like she'd been dragged there by a team of horses. With one last swipe at her red-rimmed eyes, she plastered a smile on her face and marched inside.

Yep, usually ambient music (preferably by Cryo Chamber). I want to feel like a monk in a monastery writing a scripture.

I actually have a Spotify Playlist specifically for songs that inspire me. Very diverse. Lot of videogame soundtracks. Especially the Persona Series (mostly 3).

When re-reading and editing I listen to Diablo's Tristram theme, classical, the Endless Space soundtrack, and fireplace ambiance.

If it has lyrics or is something I don't know well, it will often distract me. Have done some stuff while listening to Petrushka's Firebird Suite, Holszt's The Planets or other instrumentals but don't do it very often.

I mean, you frame that as if one can answer that for you - I don't know if listening to music will help you.
But I do know it helps me sometimes - and sometimes it doesn't. If the song is too catchy in the moment, it might just distract me; if the atmosphere doesn't 100 % fit the scene, it can influence the tone of my scene without me wanting that.
But if it does fit, it's can be quite inspiring. Nothing like writing a smut scene while listening to Closer by NIN. Classic. :blob_cookie:
