Do authors want readers to point out spelling/typos in comments?

Part of me thinks I might be helping proof read. On the other hand it feels like it could be taken as nit-picking. Is it helpful or annoying?

:meowsip: Write two comments. First thank you for the chapter, and the suggestion. Just the spelling alone reads demotivating. Especially, if you are the only comment.

Some times yes, they are very much appreciated but most times they are annoying, like the person reads your series just to Grammar Police it. Like if isn't written perfectly grammatically the story is trash even if they and many other understand what is written. Some even make an account just to comment on minor, ignorable grammar mistake

Ignore the naysayers, it's very helpful. Basically none of us can afford editors, and even if we don't take the feedback, it still counts as a comment, which helps with engagement metrics which are a factor in rising. No downsides.

I'm for it. Like, spellcheck is a thing but there's only so much it can help me when I'm using the wrong word for a thing because I don't know any better.

I'm fine with it, as long as it's not the only interaction I'm getting from the person. To me, it comes off as critical otherwise. Like, you can point out the smallest, most meaningless mistakes but can't be bothered to favorite a chapter or say you liked the story? It makes it hard for me to tell if you're a reader enjoying the story and just want to be helpful, or if you're someone who thinks my story sucks and wants me to feel stupid for it.

I will take all feedback on a chapter. I want to know about spelling issues, grammar issues, messed up sayings, plot holes, missing details and more. I won't get better if my mistakes are ignored.

If someone has taken the time to read a chapter and then post feedback, the least I can do is read their comment and try to fix it.

I certainly do! I work my butt off to write in compliance with CMOS 17 and if there's a spelling error I missed it's EMBARASSING! I want my book ready to hand over to a publisher ASAP and the cleaner the manuscript is beforehand the more money I can get in the up-front bonus!

Personaly I have dyslexia and Dysgraphia so pointing out spelling errors when I don't ask for it is annoying. I know I have trouble with spelling. Please let me correct the spelling when I get to it.

I find such errors embarrassing and certainly appreciate it when readers point them out so I can fix them!

Also, it means someone is actually reading the story, which is nice.

Absolutely not. Unacceptable. I don’t want anybody here to read through my carefully written prose and offer free proofreading feedback that would be AWFUL.

I world be compelled to answer each one with genuine gratitude. Gag me.

Yes. Always. Please. Give me a list of all of them. It would make my life so much easier.
