Mmmmmmm... I'm working on a novel whose protagonist has a trauma, so I guess it counts as PTSD? I haven't started releasing it yet though.

I also kinda want to write a VRMMO novel whose main character is a paraplegic girl at some point, but I didn't even started drafting this one. It's just an idea that I have some basic plot points in my mind that I wanna explore later on.

Other than that, I've made a few roleplay characters that were either blind or mute, but for one reason or another they always ended up being scrapped quickly, much to my dismay... T.T

Ah, and I've made a character with severe brain damage at one point... I'm not sure if I portrayed the brain damage realistically tbh, since I never did any research on how exactly this kind of thing can affect a person, but it was quite fun to roleplay with her anyways... Sadly scrapped at one point because her RP parents quit the RP and it was a bit too hard to try roleplaying an 8 years old child with severe brain damage without her parents being around.

Oh, and I made an autistic character in a roleplay once. She was really fun to roleplay, and it wasn't even in the plans to make her autistic at first, but... As I started developing her, I was like... "Doesn't she have some sort of mental disorder? I think she has..." And after thinking about it for a while, I realized she totally fit into the autistic spectrum~

She was one of my favorite characters to roleplay ever... Sadly ended up needing to be scrapped due to some issues with the admins of the roleplay and some miscommunication regarding the rules back when she was being created... orz

I think those were all that I tried playing with? I think it's interesting to try working with characters with all kinds of interesting limitations, but I haven't explored it that much in novel writing. It's something I mostly explored in roleplays~

does walking with a prosthetic foot count?
Yes! ?
Does superiority count?
Like too much of an underestimation and in the end, their face got smashed?
 Just for this, I guess it counts

RPing is something I’ve never really explored, so it’s interesting that you’re able to bring so many characters to life like that! Really cool—and a fun way to learn how certain things affect the characters you create. thanks for the reply ?

Oh, forum roleplays are pretty fun! They're kinda like novel writing, but you only control a single character instead of the whole world! So it has a different dynamic to writing novels!

Being able to focus only on your character and just reacting to what other people do can be a pretty nice experience, overall~

It also helps as writing practice for people who are still a bit too nervous about the idea of writing a whole novel by themselves. It helps gain confidence and stuff~

... Though honestly, the main reason that I write more for roleplays than on novels is because it feels easier to me... I dunno, writing novels to me requires active focus and dedication, which is something my ADHD doesn't like.

OTOH, writing for a Roleplay can be a totally natural activity that I do without any effort, so I end up writing a lot more for Roleplays than for novels! >.<

(Stargazing Witch) I have one character who is currently disabled (Lost of left arm and leg due to story events), but there are options for it to recovered. Pretty much the starting plot of the second arc was going to another planet so she could healed. It is massive mental drain on the character's family and for herself.

It was interesting to write, spreading out all small moments throughout the arc of the character ummm not dealing with it well....
I planned for it be temporary, but while it will be fixed, there will be some lingering thoughts about. And who knowns maybe they will lose something again but be more accepting of it next time :blob_hide:.

Small goals for writing this particular trait for this characters arc were, showing the physical limitation it brought and the mental burden (Which was compounded with just the other issues the family was facing).

Like I said before I do plan for it too only be temporary, but I do want to write some of the aftereffects of the experience as well.

I do want to write a central character for a story that is permanently disability in some way, but I may do that another day.

I have a character loosely based off of me, and I am retarded. Does that count?

For characters with mental disabilities daybreak on hyperion might be a good one to check out. One of the characters is bipolar.
Which one is bipolar, exactly?

Psychological trauma not necessarily equals PTSD. It vastly depends on psychological resilience. And even if person is not sufficiently resilient, PTSD is only one of many different probable complications.

Ooooooooh, got it, got it~

I never did this much research on the topic tbh, so I didn't know~

The character isn't very resilient though! >.<

She has mania followed by depression. I think that is textbook bipolar.
Yes, it is. I simply don't remember it. (To tell the truth, I dropped it at 3d or 4th chapter of the third book, maybe, I did not even get to it...)

It might be a stretch but the main character might be an example of Stockholm syndrome.
Clockwork girl might be another one. I think in some of the author notes it says some of the characters are supposed to have mental illness as well.

I have a mute side character who has crushed chords from child abuse. I also plan to have others with severe disabilities and less typical characteristics about them. The trouble is finding the right spot for them all...
