1. Go to bed. The best time for me to write is between 12 and 4 AM. I'm usually sleep-deprived with a butt cramp by then.

2. A chapter with 1.5-2k words is about half of what I normally write. It takes me a little under a week to write 3-4.5k words, so I'd say probably 3-ish days. However, I'm a very thorough editor, so I always take a little longer than I think I would.

3. Two great months where I had severe writer's block. I spent that time focusing on art and exercising instead.

character of my story is loosely based on my daughter's personality traits. :P Stubborn, emotionally uncontrollable, caring.
Brooo! You love your daughter so much! That’s true LOVE. I totally wanna experience that myself — I’m so envious!
I’ve always wanted a daughter too, hahaha.
And I think we’re in the same boat — I based my FMC on my wife as well!

I love my daughter with everything I have
She will be proud with such loving father :blobtaco: :blob_highfive:

1. What do you usually do after finishing a chapter?

I reread it and do any edits I find myself needing. Before I move onto the next chapter I want a full run through of everything that I had just written in one fell swoop before I move on because a lot of the time I deal with distractions in between writing, so I make sure it all flows and I didn't put down something that didn't make sense if I didn't properly pick up where I left off from.

2. How long does it usually take you to write, let’s say, a 1.5k to 2k-word chapter? (Including editing and grammar checks.)

This is actually kind of a difficult question. Like for instance I've been writing this chapter all morning and completed it maybe a bit ago. So in four to five hours I did about 5000 words including dealing with distractions. By distractions, I am quite literally at work. LOL. Yesterday I wrote practically nothing in the span of ten hours with distractions. As a new writer I'll let you know now that you should not stress at all about writing speed. Everyone is different.

I recommended creating an outline for your story. Include plot, key points, characters, maybe specific dialogue you thought of and don't want to forget, could be quirks of characters you want to make sure to remember (ex. chewing nails, poor eyesight resulting in glasses or squinting). It always makes my writing quicker because I have a preexisting idea of what I want.

3. What’s the longest break you’ve taken from writing at all?

Months. I've gone months without writing. Writer's block sucks. It's a big reason why I don't start posting anything until I'm done or nearly done with something. If you're dedicated to say two updates per week and suddenly you hit a writer's block and can't keep up with it anymore, your readers might be upset and disappointed when your book suddenly comes to a halt.

I read other books to get myself back in a flow or I jump off and try to ramble together side stories. Feed my brain rot of loving my ocs and pairings a bit by thinking of putting them in silly situations that don't necessarily fit with the current story line---which is usually what I burn myself out of is writing the plot, so I can sneak to the side and still write, just not any part of the story. Side stories are fun! If you can't do that then I recommend reading others' books.

It's the best thing ever - but say goodbye to any free time! Haha. I love my daughter with everything I have, and even though she's so young, the main character of my story is loosely based on my daughter's personality traits. :P Stubborn, emotionally uncontrollable, caring. And when I plotted her looks, it's what I think of my own daughter in the future.
Make sure to stay in shape or else you might get the Jake Sully dad-bod. Other than that, I'm happy for you. I like to imagine what I'd be like if I were a parent, but I don't think I'll have kids of my own.
yes somehow I feel 2k words is not enough for a chapter, but I don't want a chapter to be so long, will feel so tired for readers to read them but i don't know hahaha

i think im started feeling this, quite the pain....

actually this is the longest part before I started writing my novel, I want something all long planned, set the plot, when the idea is too unhinged I also saved them in a word document in "Concept" folder, so when the time is right to use them imma just gonna pick it out from the fridge~

yes! I know what you're talking about! :blob_highfive:

this is well noted ! Thank you ! :blob_aww:

Tried this, but its not working, feels like i'm reading mathematics. All the story other people wrote become so difficult to digest....

anyway thank you so much for the pointers!

1. I Grammarly it, I paid for the Pro plan from a third party site, I think it was 350k VND for a year plan without AI.
Then I ask ChatGPT to check it one last time, because somehow someway Grammarly will miss a few bad commas and duplicates.

2. I am following a sprint bot of sorts on Discord, and my average as far as I know is around 120 words per minute, you can do the math ovo

3. Longer than I'd like to admit

Hello!
I'm a new wannabe author and just wanted to ask a few random questions:

1. What do you usually do after finishing a chapter?
Take a short break then proceed to the next.
Or if not in writing mode, call it a day.
2. How long does it usually take you to write, let’s say, a 1.5k to 2k-word chapter? (Including editing and grammar checks.)
In notebook, two to three hours.
in computer, one hour.
3. What’s the longest break you’ve taken from writing at all?
Five months coz I have to grade my students and do some other schoolwork.

(I’ve been on a 2-day break now — not sure why, but everything I write feels off, and nothing is coming out right…)
1. Start a new one. I used to write in a paper notebook right before falling asleep, and I'd just stop when I ran out of steam.
2. Stuff stayed in the pipeline for months.
3. I've been on a break since I pushed my kid into the world over four years ago. There is no end to the exhaustion. Every time I get a little burst of energy, it gets spent on the kid.

1. Crack a beer to a job well done, (assuming I'm not partaking during)

2. If I sit down on a Saturday or Sunday for the whole day with the intent to write and lose myself in it, I can crank through 2 chapters I'm happy with in and around 30-40 pages all together (based on google docs, which I write in) Problem when I do this is that I get bored and tend to go work on a different story, typically a new one.

3. Two or three months. But I usually go manic and write to exhaustion, then wander off and go do normal and well-adjusted human things like touching grass.

Hello!
I'm a new wannabe author and just wanted to ask a few random questions:

1. What do you usually do after finishing a chapter?
Depends - sometimes I start the next one, sometimes I switch to a new book, sometimes I step away to do other, non-writing stuff.
2. How long does it usually take you to write, let’s say, a 1.5k to 2k-word chapter? (Including editing and grammar checks.)
No set time really - sometimes I'll do 5k in a few hours, sometimes it takes DAYS to get through 2 (right now I'm editing 10k and that is taking days)
3. What’s the longest break you’ve taken from writing at all?
Depends on what you mean as "writing" - for about six years, the only stuff I wrote was game-related and not "real writing"
(I’ve been on a 2-day break now — not sure why, but everything I write feels off, and nothing is coming out right…)
It happens. That's one reason why I had so many projects going at once - when one feels stale, move on to another.

Ofc!! My biggest tip will always be don't stress about it at all. At least for me writing is an enjoyable side thing that I do, so when I see people stressing out about it I can't help but feel a bit bad since I've always loved it and used it as a way to boost my mood. Good luck to you!! ?‍♂️ ❤️

1. Reread the chapter and see if its what i imagined and wanted it to be. Go to forum and ask for feedback.
2. 2k word chapter? Maybe like 1k for 1 day and next 1k for second day, normally I cross 3k cuz 2k is too short for me.
3. 3 months, currently studying for my NEET exams so i will prolly upload more after May 4th.

Drink liquor, kiss my fiance if she's in country, cook some food as my adhd ass probably hasn't ate in 36 hours... how am I fat? Exercise, put on music and jam out, do work, hate my job and boss. Drink a little more liquor (I max out at 2 glasses of 3 fingers of whiskey, not due low tolerance, but due to not drinking to get drunk). Doomscroll and repeat
