We are living through the boomer shoot Renaissance. We have Citadel, Beyond Citadel, Mullet Madjack, Forgive me Father, DUSK, HROT.

But none compare to the king (which isn't actually a boomer shooter, more of an immersive sim, but I only play boomer shooters ?‍♀️).

CRUELTY SQUAD
If you haven't played this yet, fucking do it. It's a near perfect experience. There's a live fish stock market, and a live organ stock market. Perfect gunplay. Perfect level design that can be tackled numerous ways. Great writing. And an aesthetic that hurts to look at in the best possible way. Hidden levels, hidden guns, hidden missions, multiple endings.

It is pure human creativity.

Boomer shooter? That's a new term for me.
Basically games like Doom. Typically non cover based first person shooters with simple graphics, usually fast paced. Its become a big genre the last few years, 100% indie.

I have played, the great great grandfather of A-L-L first person shooters.

most people know about "Castle Wolfenstein 3-d"
its the original gangsta, the prototype first person shooter.

what many don;t know? is that before that...
there was a "Castle wolfenstein" original.
you sort of looked "down" bird's eye view, on what was more or less stick figures, more or less.
but there was a giant multi-level map.

it was more fun than I thought it would be.
the same emulator, also had some other stuff in it.
I got to play original "infocom text adventure games"
with "hitchhiker's guide to the universe" being one of the more popular.
I could NOT make it past the goddamn door that talked, LMAO)

these games (at the same bar as mentioned above) had the same effect on other old dudes.
they heard the sound effects from "castle wolfenstein", and came *storming* over.
we had to let them play. these guys looked like little kids, yelling at the person playing.

"you idiot! move away, and you can still fire the grenade back the way you came! Why do you think you have separate aiming and walking direction keys, you moron!"

again, just a *hint* of a familiar sound effect they havent heard in decades? they're little kids all over again.
