Anyone ever launch the idea of coordination amongst authors here?

Look.
Everyone and their grandma knows that there's "cabals" and "writer's guilds"
and that they work as a coordinated team, on RR
Some teams are anyone can join, others are established proven WN authors, by invite only.
things they do, one is what we all do here. Talk, share craft, etc.
yet... its a *team*.
Everyone, gives shout-outs to team members, and gets them back.
Everyone, gives every other team member a nice comment on every chapter.
Everyone, gives every other team member a five star "review swap".
(this all goes on, at RR)

at least one (in)famous cabal... does coordinated launch releases.
all on the same style of WN.
all share cover art from art team members.
exhibit A: monster girl evolution

they took over Rising Star list for a time.
Everyone sweats releasing when they know another coordinated release is scheduled.

what harm would come, if we developed our own team.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not good enough to be on it, so I'm not trying to get a free coat tail ride.
maybe, just pondering my ponderables, supposing...

ScribbleHub, votes on who represents them as the team.
If you're good enough? You represent.
and... those of us that don't make team tryouts, well.
if you can't be an athlete, you can still be an athletic supporter.

not just team members, those not voted team members, don't get butt hurt.
waves of positive comments.
waves of five stars.
waves of readers. Hey, if you just skim down? it counts.

a lot of us are on here for a couple hours nightly.
what's five minutes to go spread some sunshine, then come back.

what does this gain scribble hub?
Respect.
Any voted team writer? initial launch success.
what, maybe a hundred or more positive short comments, a hundred or more five star review swaps.
this will be our voted best, getting the critical launch boost they need to try to make it.
A couple hundred 5-reviews, a couple hundred comments and reads... is all it takes to hit rising stars.
and since they are performance writers, well... they have every chance to make it big off of that.

I see some talented writers looking around here. we all vote on what's the big thing, they write to that. Coordinated.
I know there's some talented artists here. They make covers and ADS, again coordinated.
you can't write or do the art yet? you go give some nice clicks for out team.
when you make it onto the writing or art team? you know you made good. you can count on getting the help you need.

hey, maybe someone here has "audio books" down to a cut and paste science.
there's another job you can perform.

its not illegal.
other writing groups do it.
we can all be more than the sum of our parts.

we have proofers and editors here, that seem to enjoy doing critical reads for a hobby?
voted active team writers, get preference.

it costs? *nothing*
there's no down side.
there's only benefits, for everyone and the site prestige as a whole.

I'm pretty sure there's a couple of "trad pub" style writers here.
KU writing team, too.

food, for thought.

There's no downside for them. They do it to protect list placement and positioning.

There's a huge downside to anyone else who wants to use the platform.

Quid pro quo ratings, quid pro quo shoutouts, even quid pro quo reviews.... it's all just placement manipulation. Disencentivizes just about anyone else. And the "review swaps" are especially odious. Makes a mockery of what a review is.

They're also aggressive. They gang up on competition.

It's abhorrent.
There's a Boy's Love author circle here, the BL Palace.

@yansusustories and @tiaf are members.
Mutual interest, that's different. I like the idea of this BL Palace group. But that's not why it's done on RR. It's the exception that proves the rule.

Ah, I see...My apologies; I misread the post :sweating_profusely: :blob_shock:

I shall now commit sudoku.

Edit: Also, a side story from my past...

I once founded a writers' group with my brother (and a former SHF denizen, Ranron, who is a personal friend) and we called it, "Circle Of Creative Knowledge" or C.O.C.K. for short. (It's a pun, yes, but it's a legit group)

Sadly, that didn't go past three years coz we got a swindler for a member. ?

I'll say this.
those writing cvabals? Are just bullies, pure and simple.
when you're young in school, and you're getting beat up by a bully.
you can take it? or you can fight back.
if you're gonna get beat up every day anyways, why not get beat up *after* you sucker punch them and kick them in the nuts.
maybe you get smacked up, but hey, its happening anyways.
you run the "risk" of they get tired of getting sucker punched, kicked where it hurts, pushed down the stairs, etc.

but I know this. "being the bigger man", all that (well intention-ed, granted) advice?
does, not, work.

anyone that played sports, knows this is true.
if the ref didn't see it, its legal.
if the other team is going to take cheap shots?
you do nothing, and they'll take your *stars* out of the game.
regardless of your personal ethics, you have no choice.
you send the goon squad in, to get them. They understand, *nothing* else.

lets analyze the situation.
the RR mods? Have decided, time and again. Its perfectly legal!
what can *anyone* say?
"Hey! You're doing what we do! No fair!"
*Pffft*

How big are these so called cabal/guilds, anyways.
they put 50 bully .5 reviewers on the field?
we'll put a hundred and fifty out.
they got 12 authors all with same genre coordinated launch?
we'll do two dozen at the same thing.

those are the rules.
they do it? because it works.
why shouldn't we benefit, like they do.
I bet we could field *more* (bigger team) than any of them can.

my theory, in any conflict.
I'll play by the rules.
but if that's how the games played?
Thanks for showing me what the real rules are.

I don't see the ethical problem.
I say, give them a taste of their own medicine.

or, maybe you like getting wedgies at school every day, maybe its fun.
but if you don;t like it?
did you ever realize... that a *group*, say.. the chess club?
you CAN all go out, and give a bully a wedgie.

we all know it shouldn't be allowed.
but? it is.
I don't understand why everyone wouldn't want on board.

every time I see an author I know from my last site, their book and name i recognize?
i give a good comment, and a good review.
that's my peeps.
Wanna reform COCK with me, Racoon boss?
(dry dead pan voice and face)
yeah.
let's all get T-shirts and ballcaps.
"I love C.O.C.K."

*sheesh*

BL Palace is pretty cool. I enjoyed a watchalong last Saturday with them watching A Man Who Defies the BL World.

As for something similar to what is being talked about here? We got two others with one being exactly like a gatekeeper that, instead of bombing the fuck out of us with one-stars, they'll just blacklist you.

First one? Yuri Garden. They originated from Novel Updates. Now, these members might be seen as similar to those in BL Palace, but they're not. They are incredibly protective and will do a mass summoning and will ensure whatever novel is "Garden Approved" makes it to Trending in hours.

To give you a clear image, BL Palace is about brand-building, but Yuri Garden is territorial.

Second one? NTR Literature Hub. Now, if anyone writes anything in their themes, and you ain't a part of their circle, you will never reach the Trending; they've basically turned defending the genre into a closed-door policy for the front page; it's a monopoly.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and if any of you from YG or NTRLH call me out on this? I want you to consider something before gaslighting me on it. Yeah, you are a Discord of friends who may not feel like you're a monopoly, but when said friends happen to own the entire front page, the difference is academic for the rest of us. Like, yes, I get that the original goal is to create a safe space, but when that safe space is also a gateway to the front page, well... :blob_okay:

Personally, I'd be against taking part in such activities as "review swaps" and other things of that nature.
It's dishonest, and I won't sacrifice either my own personal, professional, or creative integrity, or that of my writing, to partake in any of that.

I don't mind engaging actively with the community as a whole, or providing critiques and feedback for anyone who asks (when my time allows), but I will never participate in review swaps, or any other form of quid-pro-quo engagement boosting.

You're not wrong, it isn't illegal.
But it isn't without cost. The cost is our personal, professional, and creative integrity.

And as already mentioned, the downside is for anyone who isn't a part of it, as it stacks everything on the platform against anyone who isn't involved.

I'll say this.

If your goal is to fight back against those "bullies" there are a number of better ways than resorting to their own approach.
As much as they may deserve it, is is far better in the long term to maintain one's professionalism and integrity, even in the face of some of their favorite tactics (IE: review-bombing), unapologetic professionalism and integrity will win out in the end where it matters.

For your readers, and their respect for you as an author.

We can form and anti guild guild of forum members just to combat them.
this? but... unironically.
it is a moral imperative, to resist tyranny.
you know what the thing about bullies, really is?
they're actually, not that tough.
they cry like little b!tches when you give them a taste oif their own medicine.
I bet the *same* guilds that pull the BS, are the ones squealing louder than piglets when it gets done back to them.
it *might* even have the effect of someone (mods) wakes up and smells the coffee, and has to put a stop to it all, wholesale.
which is what it should be in the first place.

its not wrong, its the *right* thing to do.
we have the moral high ground.

what? "its MY genre. you;re not allowed unless we approve of you."
*&^% you, is my attitude.

news flash.
this "tactic"?
doesn't w-o-r-k.
if you're waiting for this tactic to work?
it will *never* work.

if it worked? it would have put a stop to it already.
its obviously, not put a dent in it.
there's just more guilds doing it now.
your strategy?
its getting worse, not better

observation: I get a wedgie every day at school.
conclusion: if I do nothing, I somehow win.

I am (and always will be) all for resisting tyranny wherever it rears its head.
That isn't the concern. The concern is for "HOW" one goes about doing so. If we resort to the same methods they are using to bully others, that makes us no better than the bullies we are fighting against, and even if we 'win' we still lose.
If we maintain our professionalism, defend our creative integrity without apology, and still clearly articulate the flaws in their behaviors it not only reveals the bullies for who, and what, they are, but maintains our own public images as well, and will inevitably earn the respect of those who would be inclined to read our work.
This, however, is the responsibility of whomever is being targeted. Not the responsibility of outsiders.

how does my writing style or ability, change. It doesn't.
Question number two: Why? What gives you the idea to unify us like this?
why *not*.
what gives *them* the idea this is the right thing to do.
Question number three: Don't you think this will glorify and encourage bad writing?
no. I don't. we have a writing contest, and the best writers are our team. that? encourages and supports actual *good* writers to get the benefits of this. For once.
Question number four: Don't.
joke answer: why. which guild are you in (kidding)
real answer: *do*.

n-o-t-h-i-n-g will change. ever!
raise a little hell?
*instant* results.

last time i saw someone propose this idea, it went terribly as their group would get everyones discord accounts banned for terrorism
use formal logic.
cabals and groups are already doing this.
RR mods already decided its perfectly legal.
if this was the case, *every* writers group, would be nuked.
